I don't think an alias would type like that (look at the space between paragraphs!). notomention, qntmfred did say that friends/family were googling this thread.

Are you seriously trying to insult us by saying NCSU is a sub-par school? Or am I reading this wrong?4/9/2010 1:36:32 PM |

don't read too much into it. NCSU doesn't have a law school afaik. 4/9/2010 1:40:04 PM |

I'm going to not be a jack-ass and assume that just means as far as things like...Law School...because unless you count the new addition of "merging" Cambell and NCSU...then no, we don't have law.
However...wtf?4/9/2010 1:40:13 PM |

and that's the ONLY reason i think it might not be an alias...i don't know how ken would know that the family was coming across the thread unless he had been contacted, in which case he did the responsible thing and, without locking the thread, moved it to where it would be treated more seriously
though blatantly insulting the school that most of us have attended or are attending is pretty stupid if she wants people to show respect...or she's trolling 4/9/2010 1:40:57 PM |

Yeah, that was my bad for tossing in Chit Chat...my reasoning more would see it and pay respects and not do the usual TWW thing. I forgot the college kid mentality.
Oh, and update:

i am still somewhat surprised when people mock tragic deaths...certainly some of the darwin award winners and nominees deserve some mocking, but not stuff like this 4/9/2010 1:45:33 PM |

^^^ Thank you for posting that update. I had a class with Eric, but did not know him well. My condolences to his family and those close to him.

Threads like this shouldn't be made at all.
Its tragic to the family and people close to them, and certainly most can sympathize.
But the vast majority of users don't know the guy that died or their family, so they are little more than words on a screen. I really don't see what is gained by threads like these. You're just asking for more hurt/anger by making them. 4/9/2010 1:49:01 PM |

i respectfully disagree...it is entirely possible that someone on here who used to be closer with the person may not have known that it happened and the thread serves to inform them
a few years ago, there was a thread made about a a guy and his sister who were held up at gunpoint on UNC's campus...turns out it was my best friend from high school (obviously, i hadn't really kept up with him to know he was back in the country, visiting)...that thread was significantly more informational and relevant to my interests than 90% of everything else on here4/9/2010 1:55:28 PM |

yes, threads like these often attract snarky comments more often than people who have something valuable to offer
on the other hand, death is a reality of life and there's no need to hide it away. people can learn how to be empathetic to the needs of troubled friends or even total strangers by seeing others grieve.
^ exactly. threads like these can be a reminder that people are real, even if you don't know them.

~30,000 suicides in the US every year ~7.5 suicides per year per 100,000 students in college (~2.25 per year for a university with 30,000 students) ~1100 suicides per year in the state of North Carolina
Lots of people die. Just because this person lived sort of nearby isn't really a reason to care too much more than normal. It sucks that people die. It sucks that he was depressed. But you can't get worked up over all of them...4/9/2010 2:18:27 PM |

^^ i'm not saying YOU personally have to grieve for them. just to be aware that other people ARE grieving and that flippant or casual remarks on the internet might be found by loved ones

here's another message that I received through the site contact form
Quote : | "I am writing to address the responses to a thread from "The Mother" under the link discussing the death of Eric Bryant. I have not personally met Eric's mother, but I did know Eric and had met him shortly after the passing of his father in 2008. Whether or not the person is indeed her, I can attest to the accuracy of what her post contains.
Eric was a wonderful human being and he will be missed terribly by those who had the pleasure of knowing him. I can assure you that if any of the things that made Eric a phenomenal person were from his mother's influence (which I am sure they are), her intention was by no means to post a jab at NC State and was simply seeking to clarify any speculation.
I would like to thank those in this forum for their respectful comments and calling out those who were not. At the end of the day it's not about college rivalry, but the cohesiveness of being human beings who can show empathy with any tragic loss such as this." |

there were 3 student suicides last year at the university where i work (out of 2000 total students), one was the day before graduation -- and then a physics professor killed himself a few months ago 4/9/2010 2:29:50 PM |

I am sorry for being insulting of NCSU my husband was an alumni of STATE. I am hurting and can not make sense of this. I did a google and found this site and was shocked. I just assume everyone knows my child and would know things being posted were not true. I am still in shock and will not post another reply. 4/9/2010 2:33:37 PM |

no kidding. i read the thread yesterday, figured i didn't get the joke or meme or whatever, and clicked elsewhere. it didn't really occur to me that someone would put an actual death notice on TWW, much less in chit chat.4/9/2010 3:54:55 PM |

^it has happened a bunch of times, you must just not see the threads that were created...this is far far far from the first "death notice" thread....
