5.6 fewer wrecks resulting in injury"

That statistic is meaningless since the raw data is flawed. More often than not in a police report for an accident one of the causes to be listed will be speeding. Just b/c a car may be traveling faster than the limit does not mean speeding caused the accident. Driver distractions (cell phone, texting, eating food, drinking, changing the radio station, fiddling with a CD or iPod, etc) are far more dangerous tasks than speeding. However, when evaluating a crash scene good luck getting someone to admit those things to a cop.

"Does anyone ever get a ticket and think, "You know, I really shouldn't have been speeding. I'm going to put in a legitimate effort to not speed from here on out." For me, it's always been, "Well, I got caught. How did I get caught? I need to not make that mistake again.""

Yep. Its funny, I've deserved each ticket I got, and I got out of a lot of tickets I did deserve. When I got out of my teens, it kinda dawned on me "Oh, right, if I don't speed, I won't get tickets". I don't see why people always get angry at the cop...they're just doing their job. Yeah, someone can safely do 90 mph on an interstate, but it is still against the law.

[rant]What really gets me is people on cell phones. At least drunk driving is illegal, and most drunks come out at night. But why does society think cell-phone driving is OK? It is about the most stupid thing you can do on a daily basis. Driving is dangerous (it is under-respected). As a motorist, motor-cyclist, and bicycle-cyclist, I get pissed when I see cell phone drivers. Everyone else should too. [/rant]

I do. I don't make enough money to repeatedly pay fines+court costs/lawyer fees.

Wait what?

Americans use 375 million gallons of gasoline per day.
That's 136,875,000 gallons per year?

Does not compute...

I'm not gonna waste my time driving slowly at a speed limit set in place for the retards of the world (I'm talking specifically about Interestate speed limits here). I don't care about paying a speeding ticket fine. I do have a problem with the automobile insurance racket that costs me thousands of dollars over the years.

I wish there was an elevated drivers license available to possess that would enable one to travel at higher speeds on Interstates. I'd imagine something requiring one to spend time actually learning about the physics of driving an automobile and how to control it in all circumstances. An extra $1000 should be enough to cover that expense. Additionally the extra money would exclude the people with shitboxes that can barely afford to keep a car in "functional" condition
