---EDIT---
I just noticed I bumped Wraith's job posting update. Here it is:
Just got some new updates btw. Looking for folks who are pursuing a degree in any of the following:
Aerospace, Aeronautical, Chemical, Civil, Computer, Electrical, Mechanical, Industrial Engineering, Math, and Physics. Other closely related engineering degrees may be considered if appropriate.
Computer Science and Information Technology
Physical and Biological sciences
Business Management, Business Analytics, MBA, Human Resources, Accounting, Finance, Economics, Procurement-Contracting, and Education.
From the folks I've talked to here, students in aerospace, mechanical, and electrical engineering have the best chance of getting something.
Basic requirements:
Be a United States Citizen; b. Be at least 16 years old; c. Have at least a 2.9 (2.9 overall) GPA; d. Be pursuing a baccalaureate, graduate degree or PhD in one of the academic majors or related fields listed above; and e. Be enrolled in an accredited college or university on at least a half-time basis and be at least a sophomore.
It looks like the only real thing that someone might have trouble meeting is the 2.9 GPA requirement.

^Thanks for the bump!
I wanted to give all of my fellow TWW'ers and NCSU alumni a heads up that NASA Marshall Space Flight Center is hiring. We currently have engineering and non-engineering positions open, so if you aren't in a science/technical field there may still be something for you. The engineering positions will most likely be in support of the SLS project (see pic below and/or Google it or ask me if you want more info on what SLS is) that we've been ramping up with for the past year or so. I've heard from a number of sources that MSFC will have more openings in the coming months but right now there are positions open in the following areas:
Engineering/Technical: -Engineering project management -Project/mission operations -Reliability and Quality Assurance (Mainly dealing with flight systems safety and failure analysis) -Materials/structural dynamics -Fluids and flight mechanics (Aerothermodynamics, Aerospace Vehicle Design, Navigation/Guidance, /Control Systems, Flight Vehicle Acoustics, Stability/Control/Performance) ** This one is probably in my branch so you might be working with yours truly if you end up getting it -Space and air propulsion systems (Electrical Power Systems; Direct Energy Conversion; Propulsion Flow Dynamics; Mechanical Components; Propulsion and Power; Fuels and Combustion Processes; Airbreathing Propulsion Systems; Aerospace) -Flight software and spacecraft computing systems
Non-technical positions: -Human resources -Public affairs -Accounting
In addition to these there are open co-op positions for this summer and the Autumn 2012 semesters. Co-ops are almost guaranteed a full time job here after completing their co-op rotations. The ares listed above have openings for both entry level and experienced candidates. These were only posted yesterday and from what I've heard there will be more postings in the near future. These positions are only open to United States Citizens.
If you are interested in any of these, please send me a PM and I'll get you all the info you need. It would help if you include your educational background, level of experience, and any areas of concentration that you focused on while in school.
If you have any questions about these jobs, NASA, Huntsville, Government work, etc. feel free to post them in this thread.
For the engineers, this is what you would probably be working on:

so... does NASA ever hire folks with an Education background for outreach and whatnot?
^and lord I hope that thing gets built... what a mighty rocket. (after years of stumbling around because of politics and what not we need to commit.)

^Yes definitely. If you have good communication skills like most teachers do (excluding professors/TA's in engineering) we can probably use you in HR or public affairs. I'm about to head to a dentist appointment but I'll send you some more info when I get back. 3/21/2012 9:47:27 AM |

I'm going to be a December grad in ME, and so I'm assuming it's a bit early to apply for these positions. However, is there a time you would suggest for checking into positions at NASA for a Jan 2013 start date? Or should I just hang tight for the next bump? 3/21/2012 3:21:09 PM |

I'd say start looking by the end of June. If there are a lot of applicants it can take a month or two for them to all you, even if they are interested. 3/21/2012 5:49:26 PM |

what's it looking like over there for NEs?
with a concentration in incompressible fluid physics and effective minors in mathematics, ME and EE?

^We've got stuff for you. Most of the open engineering positions accept nuclear engineering degrees (especially with those minors) but the ones you'd probably be most interested in are on the propulsion and power side. MSFC does a lot of research and development into nuclear propulsion engines. I'll send you some more info later on today when I get a chance. 3/22/2012 9:34:19 AM |

A few more openings were just posted. A few of the accounting ones are closing pretty soon. PM me if interested in anything. 3/23/2012 11:37:57 AM |

Just had a few more openings for people that may already have a few years of experience in applied science fields (these are also open to most engineers), particularly meteorology, chemistry, physics, astronomy, mathematics, oceanography, and space science.
Looks like one opening deals with design and development of thrust vector control equipment and systems on aerospace launch vehicles for current and future exploration missions. Another deals with analyzing and understanding space environmental effects, specifically ionizing radiation,on the design construction and operation of avionics systems. PM me if interested. 3/27/2012 4:20:48 PM |

bump, my branch chief just informed me of a position that has opened up right here in my branch doing guidance, navigation, and controls. It isn't an entry level position (unless you have an MS or PhD), but is more suited to engineers with at least 1.5 years of experience. 4/5/2012 5:10:43 PM |

Oy, more jobs just got posted. One is an entry level position in measurement and instrumentation, dealing specifically with sensors, control systems, signal processing, telemetry, and telecommunications. It's mainly geared towards those with a background in electrical engineering but anyone with an engineering or physics/chemistry degree is eligible.
The other position just posted is for someone with either an advanced degree or at least a few years of experience. It deals specifically with guidance, navigation, and control involving modeling, simulations, programming, and the design/analysis of control systems. Based on the description it is actually right here in my branch. Mainly geared towards those with a degree in mechanical or aerospace engineer, but once again it is open to all engineers/applied scientists.
Send me a PM if interested in either. 4/11/2012 9:06:58 AM |

Are all of these in Huntsville, AL. ? or some in Texas or Florida?
Also do they need a secret clearance or anything like that?

(Copied from the Future of Manned Spaceflight thread)
Hey dudes! NASA Marshall Space Flight Center just announced SIX vacancies in the Engineering Directorate. These are ENTRY LEVEL positions and are only available to recent graduates (those who graduated with a BS or MS within the past 2 years). Specifically we are looking for people with degrees in Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical, Computer, and Materials Engineering, but those with degrees in other types of engineering or applied science will also be considered. The job announcement is only open until April 17 so if you are graduating this May (or know someone who is that would be interested), you'll need to apply ASAP. Please PM me if you want more info or would like to apply.
ScubaSteve, these positions are only in Huntsville. You won't need a secret level clearance or anything like that. 4/14/2013 12:56:58 AM |
