I think its entirely believeable and plausible that sabotage could have taken place.

Saying the oil rig disaster is analagous to Katrina is like saying that the way you handed a forest fire slowly approaching your house is the same as if your house suddenly exploded.

"sabotage "

Are you suggesting the gas companies intentionally leaked some oil so they'd have an excuse to raise prices and recoup even more profit? Or that a different oil company sabotaged this platform so that all oil prices could go up and so that their competition would be wounded?

I'm not saying that this is a secret big oil plot, but its certainly plausible.

its plausible that an environmentalist, in order to make a broader point, would sabotage an oil rig to raise awareness, public ire, etc...

not saying this is the case here, but it is certainly possible.

what would you call the odds of something like that? just because something is POSSIBLE doesn't make it a valid point to consider. and there's been no evidence to lend any support to this wild conspiracy theory.

Limbaugh has downplayed the need for a massive cleanup, saying that oil in the ocean was a natural phenomenon and as a result the ocean would take care of cleaning itself.

"You do survive these things. I'm not advocating don't care about it hitting the shore or coast and whatever you can do to keep it out of there is fine and dandy, but the ocean will take care of this on its own if it was left alone and was left out there," Limbaugh said. "It's natural. It's as natural as the ocean water is."

again, I am not offering any evidence or claiming this is the case, I am only acknowledging that it is possible. I also dont think its that far-fetched of a theory as far as things that are 'possible' go.

there are radical groups that destroy private property and sabotage machinery to prove environmental points.

this is the first result of a google search:

Optimum has to be trolling. Everyone knows the millenniums-old "attack yourself to malign your enemy" trick. How could Optimum have never heard of that? -- or is it that just because Limbaugh said it, he has to ridicule it? Either way, dumb.

And now, Fox News has Michael Brown ("Heckuva job, Brownie!") on, and he criticizes the Obama administration's handling of things.

Robert Gibbs Slams Fox News Over Michael Brown Conspiracy Theory
http://www.mediaite.com/tv/robert-gibbs-slams-fox-news-over-michael-brown-conspiracy-theory/

Quote :
"Brown’s almost equally loony contention was that the administration simply let the leak worsen for political gain, and swooped in too late, when it was already out of hand. Now, where would Brown ever get an idea like that?

Gibbs criticized Fox for “not push(ing) back too hard,” and for “having someone like that” on the air. Of course, if Brown is willing to show his face, any network would be crazy not to put him on, especially with the popularity of the false “Obama’s Katrina” narrative."

So Fox is letting a know-nothing about crisis management talk authoritatively about a subject for which he was wildly discredited and publicly humiliated. Excellent.

Has Rush blamed the floods in Nashville on the president yet saying that Obama hates white people? I mean, the media really has dropped the ball covering the extent of the devastation but I would think even El Rushmo wouldn't pass up this low hanging fruit.

WHY THE FUCK did they let that stupid motherfucker comment on anything? His comments on the subject are not worthy to be aired, never mind live segments.

Actually, it was Rush that made the insinuation. But since you are so hell bent on maintaining that it had been possible that it was done by environmentalists would you have also conceded that it was equally possible that a North Korean torpedo blew up the oil platform????????

I am amazed that it has taken so long to stop the leak.

I admit, when I first heard of the leak I thought it would be contained in a week or so. This is crazy that here we are, so many weeks later, with our thumbs still squarely up our asses.

Okay, now if you weren't angry about the oil spill... this ought to make everyone angry:

Transocean made $270M profit from insurance payout
http://www.marketwatch.com/story/transocean-made-270m-profit-from-insurance-payout-2010-05-09

Quote :
"LONDON (MarketWatch) -- Transocean Ltd., the owner of the rig leased by BP PLC (BP,BP.LN) which is currently leaking oil into the Gulf of Mexico, made a $270 million profit from insurance payouts after the disaster, the Sunday Times reports.

The amount, revealed during a conference call to analysts, was made because its insurance policy for Deepwater Horizon rig was greater than the value of the rig itself, the paper reports. The Times says Transocean has already received cash payment of $401 million and the rest is due in the coming weeks.

Transocean said the cost of the cleanup from the leaking rig must be covered by BP and two smaller partners, Anadarko Petroleum and Mitsui of Japan, the paper says"

They made a fucking profit on 11 dead men and millions of gallons of oil spilling uncontrolled into the gulf. Unbelievable.

I suppose if I were a stock holder of the insurance company I would be angry, but I'm not sure what I'm supposed to be angry about here as an every day citizen. They had insurance on the rig, apparently a stated value policy, the rig was destroyed, the insurance paid out. The fact that people died is indeed tragic, but that doesn't change the conditions of the insurance contract. And while the rig itself may have only been worth X dollars, it probably will cost much more than X dollars to replace the rig and lost revenue from the rig, hence why the policy was probably for more than actual value of the rig.

Put it this way, you buy a massively expensive car and insure it. You know the moment you drove the car off the lot, the actual value of the car we decreased by 20%. You call your insurance company an work out a stated value policy so that even if you get into a wreck tomorrow or a year from now, you'll be able to take the check from the insurance company and buy a new car off the lot. 2 years from now, after you put 40,000 miles on your car, you get into a wreck. As a result of this wreck, 4 adults and 2 kids died. Should your insurance company only pay you the actual value of your car because some people died even though you've been paying premiums on a stated value?

An interesting article keeping things in perspective: The environmental protections and BPs handling of the American leak have been less than stellar IMO, but hey it could be worse, you could live on the Niger Delta!

http://www.reuters.com/article/businessNews/idUSTRE64H56O20100518

Quote :
"The U.S. media and political machine has turned its full force on BP and U.S. President Barack Obama has set up a commission into the leak which is sending an estimated 5,000 barrels per day (bpd) into Gulf of Mexico waters.

In contrast, the international media has largely ignored the latest incidents of pipeline damage in Nigeria, where the public can only guess how much oil might have been leaked.

. . . . . . .

Exxon declined the opportunity to give details of the damage, clean-up or repair work.

An industry source, who declined to be named, said 100,000 bpd of oil had leaked for a week from a pipeline that has since been mended.

"If this (the BP spill) were in the Niger Delta, no one would be batting an eyelid," said Holly Pattenden, African oil analyst at consultants Business Monitor International. "They have these kind of oil spills in Nigeria all the time."

The point of the post was that despite the failings in BP and our government; atleast we live in America and there WILL be justice of some form. not so for the poor folks in Nigeria.
