You all had a good point. Thanks for the advise. It may or may not have been infringing on their copyrights, but I changed the name anyways to the Wolf Exchange, since anything with "NC State" in it is a bit sketch. (Wasn't really intending to have it sound close to TWW but I like Wolf better than Pack.)

By the way, in response to "more like nc state shit exchange amirite????"
This is funny. I was actually half tempted to re-name it to WolfShit.com. When I get back to my laptop I'll upload the pictures of the Wolf Shit logo.

The same url works, but so does http://wolfexchange.com now. There are a LOT of housing ads now, so thanks for your support, even with most of your strange responses. I've now added a few features, notably a Misc section by popular demand, a bikes section, and a tickets sections.

This is a good point, but the idea is not to find mattresses with funny stains cat hair, obviously. The point is that you've got a community of 33,000 students all in a really close proximity that are all likely to need similar things because they're all in college - things like bikes, apartment/dorm furniture, laptops, ipods, etc. I think also it can be a lot more convenient if you can say "hey bike for sale, it's at Bragaw," for someone living on campus than to say "hey bike for sale, it's in Cary."

While this would be an improvement, the problem there is that you're just going to end up being a TWW Classifieds clone using a craigslist-based format.


Also, you've got another competitor in the Facebook Marketplace listings of pretty much every NCSU student living in Raleigh. Granted, not too many people actually use FB marketplace, but it is there.

True, but I think the Craigslist format makes a significant difference - its easier to find things and its more convenient, plus users don't have to register or sign in to post. Honestly, this site is an experiement, just as every website is at first. If there's a need for it, it will succeed, and if there's not a need for it, then it won't. I know most of the people here are loyal to TWW, and rightfully so. My site though really is not very complex and doesn't take much money or time, so I don't mind throwing it out there and seeing if it's helpful. Only time will tell, but as of now, the housing section is doing really well. I think the other sections will take longer to catch on and are less relevant than the housing section is now during the summer.

Not really, there's not much money in classified ads. Craigslist is the largest for-profit classifieds site and its made a few million. There's a far smaller market for college classified sites, considering that college students make up only a small percentage of the general population, and college students really have no money to pay for a classified ad. Advertisements will eventually probably cover the costs of hosting, but I doubt they'd make a site like this hugely profitable.

Also, question: why is it a bad thing to expand to other colleges? Sites like uloop attempt to do this but are very vague and don't know the college specifically. They are generic. The Wolf exchange attempts to combat this because I am here. I know the student body at State. I can react to a greater need for housing as opposed to bikes for example. I can get into the community and know them and take feedback from them.
