if you actually read about the LLS, you'd know that isn't true. but nice try. they focus on research, yes. but not just big research projects. in addition (and the main reason i'm running) they provide patient family and support. for example, reimbursement for costs associated with treatment that AREN'T covered by insurance, support groups for families and patients (free), literature (free), etc, etc.

and there is a 1/2 and full marathon coming up in raleigh in nov. better make plans to get away now.

Let me guess, someone you know fell victim to the disease and since you had no control over the matter you think paying some sleezeballs salary will make a difference.

If you want to really help, take all the cash donations you get and give them under the table to a family that has medical debt due to this illness. Cut out the middle men and cut out the sleezy doctors too.

yep you got it all worked out. it makes more sense to hand random people bunches of cash under the table!! that will totally work. they will definitely use it for their medical debt and not something else. and they definitely won't ever get caught! its not like having a shitload of medical debt magically paid off is a red flag.

it is much better to do that than to support a charity who requires receipts for reimbursement. and a charity whos research (including research at smaller universities and labs that BIG charities like the ACS won't support) has led to drugs like Gleevec. and it seems completely stupid to support a central system that matches people who have had cancer to people currently fighting cancer so they have someone to talk to. why would anyone ever want an organization that provides free literature to patients and families? that is just stupid. i'm totally against supporting doctors because all of them are stupid sleaze bags that don't give a shit and just wanna get paid.

you are so smart. that means you can leave now, right? k baiiiii. if you don't like it, don't donate. its really quite simple.

They should never pay the medical debt. The cash is just to make their life easy.

The medical contributions of these charities pale in comparison to the work real drug companies do. Who then charge exorbitant fees to recoup these costs while still becoming excessively wealthy. Fees that the hospital then pass on to people that will never pay them. It's then the job of the government to pay instead, which just comes out of my pocket anyway. I consider my good deed already done.
