-5/19/2010 - Ok, so aside from the fact that the relocation company was initially pretty slow to contact me, they've been pretty on the ball since I spoke with them. I was able to encourage them to track and pursue this effort throughout the weekend, emphasizing my tight schedule. They were able to find movers on short notice I met my movers today, and they will be here tomorrow morning to pack my house up, and load it onto the truck. They also have contacted someone to disconnect my washer and dryer. I spoke with my relocation rep today, and she has set up temporary housing in MD waiting for me when I get there (they will pay for my temporary housing for up to 30 days) and in addition, will pay for my food on per diem rates ($50/day). In the mean time, the relocation company is going to store my household goods for up to 90 days, and will move them to my new residence once I have it secured. Once I get to MD, I'll have a solid month to find a suitable place to live. Sweet! I'm not feeling quite as much anxiety now. 5/18/2010 6:34:31 PM |

sweet... i have a best friend that lives in Rockville, MD
he works for the government (engineering)
not a bad area... really short distance to DC and the city, but where he lives it is pretty peaceful and nice.
I think it'd be a good area to live. you can have your peace and quiet and are just a really short drive away from the city when you want to go there. 5/18/2010 8:36:22 PM |

^ yeah, that's going to help a lot. As opposed to signing a lease for a place "sight unseen", I'll get a chance to scope out a nice place and then wait for it. They're providing me with a realtor and paying their fees + finder's fee to find a place for me as well. They'll take my specs., narrow it down to 6 - 7 places, then arrange a "tour day" to let me pick...
Anyway, tomorrow, I'm taking a personal business day to handle this move. I plan on waking up at my normal time (6:00am) to finish getting things ready. I'm going to stop by dunkin' donuts and pick up a box-o-joe and 24 donuts for the movers to enjoy as they do their thang. Not cause I have to... but because I can... and because perhaps that will be enough incentive for them not to try to steal anything ] 5/18/2010 8:58:48 PM |
