I mean, he was a very stubborn man. But even though he died when I was 6 (from his tenth heart attack), I still miss him a lot and some of my best memories were with him. It's not about the amount of time you spend with your family, it's about the quality.

these threads will never get old...there will always be people who hate cigarette smoke and those that impose their habit on others, and there will always be people who feel that the right to poison oneself is accompanied by the right to poison others

Fuck it, I want a double-down instead of seeing my grandchildren grow up.

That bacon goodness is just worth it, man.

If you didn't figure it out yet, both of my grandparents died young before I got to know them at all. My only memories of them are my grandmother in the ICU with lung cancer, her funeral a few months after, and my grandfather's funeral as well. I guess all of those bacon breakfasts and packs of cigarettes paid off.

i see your point, but don't you think its the right of the person to decide how quickly and in what way they kill themselves? if they are not directly responsible for your care, or the care of any others, i feel like they have every right to off themselves however they wish because, while they may leave behind some emotional pain, they're not hurting anyone else

that said, of COURSE i think it's selfish...but again, if their family doesn't mean that much to them, that's their prerogative...my biggest complaint is those that choose to kill themselves while harming others in the process

Oh and just FYI, my stepdad also smokes (not Marlboro reds though, those things are hardcore) and that doesn't make him any less of an upstanding individual...

Anyway, yall have fun arguing!

I just want to let you know that I'm not mad at my Grandpa at all for smoking, drinking too much coffee, etc etc etc and having that (tenth) heart attack... He was an awesome Grandpa while he was around and that speaks volumes since I only knew him for 6 years. My other grandpa is still alive and I won't even go to his funeral.

So, in short, don't assume someone's family doesn't mean much to them because they smoke and have other unhealthy habits. :\

Well, sure, it's their right.

It's also the right of the descendants to grow up without a strong extended family, since most of the family will have died by the age of 55. For them to wonder what their grandparents were like, etc.

Those people enjoying their lives are SELFISH! I demand more of their time so they can pay attention to me. They should stop doing the things they enjoy because I deserve more of their time.

^There's a balance, man.

I always ask my mom, who is overweight and doesn't eat right, if she wants to see her grandchildren or if she wants them to know her personally at all.

Because at the rate she's going now, she has maybe ten years left.

True comment meaning one where I would type out all the reasons why your statement is false, dumbass.

1. You're not worth my time.
2. I don't need to prove my stepdad's intelligence to you.

Mm, reading comprehension.

for not being worth your time, you seem to be spending enough to respond to each of my posts

i know you don't need to prove your stepdad's intelligence to you...i'm quite aware of his bad decision and i have assessed his intelligence on my own...i don't care if you like it or agree with it...it's my right to judge based on his actions and it's your right to be upset about it

Mm, delicious cancer.

@ McDanger: I agree with what you're saying, but don't you think that posting photos of people who lived back before the dangers of smoking were widely publicized might weaken your position a bit? I mean, that was back when "4 out of 5 doctors smoked Camels" and shit.

i pay good fucking money to smoke cigarettes, been smoking since 18, haven't smoked a cigarette inside my own home since 2005, been flicking the cherry off and stowing the butt in my pocket since 2006 so I am not a litter bug, I stand a good ways off from others if smoking near a group of people so as not to stink up their clothes/hair...ya know I don't think I am infringing on anyone with my habit. Additionally, nicotine keeps me sane at this point...I can think of at least 3 instances where if there weren't a cigarette handy, people would have died(or at least caught a severe beating).

i give you mad props for this (seriously)...it's not smokers that i hate, it's INCONSIDERATE smokers...you don't appear to be one

i feel like there are fewer of you than the other, but i admit that that could stem from the level of disdain i have for those that are in-your-face inconsiderate

i'll give you this...sometimes i incorrectly equate "intelligence" and "common sense"...in the case of smoking, i believe that the educated who engage in it lack common sense and the uneducated the mental capacity to understand its consequences

remember trolls, once someone starts smoking (at a young and vulnerable age surely), they are stuck with an ADDICTION which won't go away on its own no matter "stupid" or not the individual happens to be.

There is a big difference between allowing yourself to enjoy things that are not necessarily healthy for you versus allowing those unhealthy influences to dictate your health and well being. If you're coughing, wheezing, can't walk up the stairs without gasping for air, etc. you're going to have a hard time convincing me that the cigarettes or fast food are enhancing your life in any way.

I'm fully aware of my own vices and how they contradict my statement.

I've said repeatedly that I don't find it funny. I'm not sure what the right word is. Disappointing, maybe? You feel sorry for the person, but you also realize at the same time that they made the choice to start doing what they're doing, and they are completely aware of the risks at the same time.

So, how am I supposed to feel about someone who smoked for 40 years and now has lung cancer? Sorry for them? I don't laugh, no, but I am frustrated that they put themselves in this position, especially if it's someone I care about.

Sounds about like how I'd feel, but at the same point in time, you have to remember they were comfortable making that choice. It was their choice to make.

I can't believe the degree the douchebaggery being demonstrated by the anti-smoking moral busybody crowd here.
I really would not care one bit if every last one of you died a slow and painful death...and soon.
I don't have the time, patience, or speaking skill to convince you, but make no mistake -- you are among the worst people ever.
