the reception will be indoors, of course.

and, really. you are trying to be a dick. I don't need a crash course in mid-atlantic/southeastern US weather patterns.

Ah. Well, I still don't get the point of roasting everybody (yourselves included) at the start so that they smell like ass later, but the indoor reception will mitigate the damage.

And I don't know why you're rolling your eyes at me, woman. By its nature a rain plan wedding is a backup wedding. Am I wrong? Not like it was your first choice.

edit: Maybe you don't need a crash course. But a surprisingly large number of people, apparently, do, including otherwise reasonable and intelligent individuals who are inexplicably obsessed with standing in lovely, bug-infested, baking field instead of standing in a lovely, climate-controlled building.

eh, I'm not much for dramatizing it, and neither is she. a backup wedding is a wedding. plan B is still a plan.

to tell you the truth, we'd probably both find it pretty awesome to marry in the rain.

. ..aside from dirtying the dresses, makeup, etc.

Well truth be told I would have welcomed rain at any of these weddings as a means to drive us inside or at least cool off outside.

Mind, I'm not opposed to nature in general. I'm opposed to experiencing nature in dark-colored multi-layer suit in a setting where drinking water or in any other way cooling yourself could alienate you from friends and/or family forever.

to tell YOU the truth, I'm not the least excited about wearing a suit/tux. but I'm going to. if this were really all about comfort, the entire wedding party would wear sweatpants and t-shirts.

You just need to go to more laid back weddings

I'll be surprised if anyone shows up to our wedding in a suit and will wonder what the hell they're thinking heh.

The whole "YOU" thing would have been more effective if I'd said "to tell you the truth" at some point, but you do what you've got to do.

And I hear you on the comfort thing. The clothes are traditional and it's hard to break tradition. But you're basically going out of your way to make yourself less comfortable. People would be skeptical of a sweatpants wedding. Nobody's going to bat an eye about an indoor wedding.

But, hey, I can see I'm wasting my time here. You or your fiancee (or both) are dead set on doing something that adds several layers of stress to an already stressful day, and I've filled my quota of trying to help strangers avoid bad decisions for the day.

the fact that you don't know me at all and have the gall to ask that leans heavily on some unidentified affliction. "mutant" was the first one I thought of.

but, so you rest easy, I've known her for just about 3 years now. Been together for about 1.5 of those.

my cousin just got married three weeks ago and her reception was at the aqueduct in chapel hill. don't judge it by the website...i thought it would be incredibly "churchy" but the outdoor patio and view was beautiful. it offers you the ability to either stay inside, outside, or covered on the patio. there is enough room for a band and dancefloor outside as well. in all, i was impressed with the place...

also...congratulations, joel

Get married at the State Fair.

Preferably in front of the Zipper because that ride is awesome and it's not going to be around that much longer even though it's better than any other fair ride that has come out in the last 30 years.

I thought I was being uncharacteristically non-grumpy. For once I'm not even bashing wedding traditions in general. It is interesting that I'm being called a dick for suggesting that North Carolina gets hot for much of the year, and that wearing formal clothes in such heat is unpleasant.

But if I'm going to be called grumpy I suppose I'd better act the part. Let's see what I can drum up...

My comments for you are that you and your guests will be miserable at the wedding, and that your poor fiancee will grow tired of your constant libertarian carping, ultimately resulting in you becoming another divorce statistic. The depression brought on by this event will cause your politics to go further to the fringe, until eventually you are shot to death by ATF agents storming the compound you have come to live at. The subsequent fire will render your remains unidentifiable, and you will be buried in the sort of 'John Doe' fashion normally reserved for the homeless.

Sir I'm gonna need you to calm the fuck down. The ceremony will be outdoors and it's not going to be hours long. I think they can handle it and the guests can man up for a little while. They're going to be able to cool off at the reception which is going to be indoors and refreshments and probably lots of booze will be served. They'll get over it and hopefully won't be bitter for years to come like you obviously are.

In other words,

Hahaha, I just realized that I've got d7freestyler confused with another poster whose name involves a D and some numbers. d3str0y3er, I think?

But I'm going to stick with my initial predictions because they amuse me even more when applied to someone who doesn't spew "constant libertarian carping."

But, I guess back to the matter at hand...

Quote :
"I think they can handle it and the guests can man up for a little while. "

Of course they can. I just don't understand why anybody would invite a bunch of guests to a thing and then force them to man up. "Hey, come to this really expensive party, bring us presents, and be really hot for a while. Yeah, we could skip the whole 'hot' part, but we won't. Booze and dancing to follow."

And I'm not bitter. It's not like I resent these people. I just wonder if anybody thinks the thing out more than "Ooh, outside is pretty and different!" Especially considering how emphatically not "different" it is anymore.

I understand your point of view. And I agree-- it's not different. But it's what the bride and groom want and in the end, it's their day and their way.

Well... if you count the Airport, which is inside of Raleigh, you should go there, then fly to Vegas and then fly back.

And I get that. I'm also not saying that they should change their day to suit my way. I honestly think it is in their best interest to think things through a little better.

I can see how, looking at a picture on the internet, people could say, "Oh, that's so pretty!" But a picture doesn't sunburn the bride or try to sting the groom in the face.

But I realize I'm tilting at windmills here. Nobody's going to be convinced.

i would like to add i have never been to an outside wedding that i didn't enjoy. i think it's BEAUTIFUL and theres nothing like outdoor scenery and fresh air to make me enjoy what's happening. i love it.
and i've even been to a wedding where there was a thunderstorm and we all ran outside for 5 minutes when it cleared to hear the vows and then ran back in.

theres so much natural beauty outside. it's already decorated!

GrumpyGOP i don't know where all of this misplaced hate comes from.
my guess is that maybe youve been to weddings where the wedding was more important than the marriage?
it sucks you've had such bad experiences

You can get married in the airport. It's actually pretty badass if you like airplanes. Was out of our budget though
