1) the cop should not have been carrying a weapon when he was anticipating drinking. that's just irresponsible.
2) the marine shouldn't have played grab ass, but that's no reason for being shot at 13 fucking times

i don't understand why it's ok for a cop to carry his weapon if he's off duty, and especially if he's been drinking. cops should follow the same laws as everyone else when they're not on duty.

also, fuck this guy he obviously has a problem with shooting people at night clubs. i hope he dies in a fire.

What happened to this man was beyond wrong, but people shouldn't notice only when the victim happens to be a soldier. If this guy were some random citizen, many people in this thread expressing outrage would be defending the police and saying "don't commit crimes and you'll have nothing to worry about". sigh.

If he was off duty and under the influence, he should be treated like any other citizen who decides to pull out a gun during a drunken bar altercation.

The double standard that protects some of these motherfuckers just because their day job labels them an 'officer of the law' is absolutely ridiculous.

If you shoot someone while off duty, you should be treated just the same as any average joe who drank too much and got worked up. This benefit of the doubt shit is ridiculous

The absolute 180 pulled by many people in this thread. There are plenty of "cop shoots unarmed man" articles posted on this site, and a shitload of people apologizing for crooked cops. This guy's a soldier, and it crosses wires for people

Admittedly, I haven't read every post in all of those threads, but all of the 'cop killed someone for no good reason' threads I've read gave me the impression of folks getting pretty riled up about it, minus the typical trolls and types that believe the police can do no wrong, ever. For better or worse, I assumed this guy was a minority based on his first name. It didn't change the way I feel about the situation in any way though. Nor did the fact that he is a soldier.

Nobody deserves to be shot over such a small incident. 13 times is excessive. Even if the initial shot were justified there's no way you're going to convince me the officer thought his life was at risk after the initial shot or two. Barring some crazy evidence coming out that has not been reported in the news it sounds like he just murdered someone over a minor argument. Lock this guy up and throw away the key.

I was in Baltimore this weekend for Starscape, and we walked around downtown to get something to eat around 8am on Sunday. AT LEAST 80% of the people we encountered on the street at that time were completely out of their minds.

Also, cops should be held to a significantly higher standard. Unfortunately, they often seem to be given an extreme amount of benefit of the doubt at best, and flat-out looking the other way at worst. This asshole seems like a chronic problem of the worst kind, based on what we know from the article. If that's all there is to the story, they need to toss that piece of shit into the butt hut for a looooong time.

i mean, if you shoot someone a half-dozen times and he's laying writhing on the ground, and you take careful aim from 10m away and plug him in the head...that's not OK.

If you start shooting and unload 13 rounds in 6-7 seconds, that might not be unreasonable at all, depending on the circumstances.

Don't take that to be any defense of this shithead, though.
