LoL. I laffed.

<its funny because it calls out the ambiguous phrasing of the thread title. indy did not specify whether the 71 cent goal was a ceiling or a floor.>

hmm... I WONDER WHAT THE OP MEANT
(plus, ceiling and floor aren't the only options. With no qualifiers, it suggests being exact, not an upper or lower limit...)

Strawman. (and a highly weak and predictable one at that. Go back to the soap box, troll.)

I suppose I could eat nothing but Ramen for a day, that'd be like less than 50 cents. However, do we have to factor in the electricity usage in that 71 cents?

CO2 concentrations have been way WAY WAY higher than they are now, to the benefit of the planet. Not really sure how that's a strawman but you go on feeling happy that you ride your bike around. If you use a car you're just a damn hypocrite.

you're talking about a guy who doesn't shower because it wastes water and uses patchouli because deodorant has harmful chemicals

Did you know that if humans disappeared the banana (as we know it) would go extinct. They're all seedless...oops! (thank you history channel)

Nah, just the food price.

Another strawman. (You don't understand what this is, do you? It's when you assign an argument to me that I never made, then proceed to argue back against it, despite my having never made it. I never said that "something essential for all life on this planet [carbon] is bad", nor did I ever say that people shouldn't use any carbon, such that if I used a car I'd be "just a damn hypocrite". You said those things, then you commented on them as though I said them. That's a strawman, as in a man made of straw -- a fake. You constructed a fake, but act like it's my authentic argument. Stop doing that -- it makes you look stupid.)

There you go, TKE-Teg. Here's another type of strawman. He's saying things about me that aren't true, but he's acting like they are. Then you go on to respond as though it's true. You guys are good at that.

considering what we just posted is very light hearted and presumptious based on statistics (for the car) I really don't give a shit.

[Edited on June 11, 2010 at 10:34 AM. Reason : CO2, however...no i'm good on that.]

That has to be referring to common commercial varieties of bananas. There are still bananas with seeds in the world, they just don't ship all that well

I've eaten bananas with seeds in them before. They're really sweet compared to the usual bananas.

I had this same thought coming into the thread.
The phrase requires the use of "only"
In it's current state it is ambiguous - when you ask some one can they do something - the meaning there is "are you able" - you are essentially saying are you able to eat 71 cents worth of food - maybe what you ment to say was are you able to live off of 71 cents worth of food.

Yes I am physically able to eat 71 cents worth of food - am I able to live off of 71 cents worth of food, probably not.

Sorry Indy, but you are wrong on this one.
