I'd say the top soccer players are just as athletic as those guys. The only category that those basketball players would probably win every time would be how high they could jump.

The soccer players would be just as fast and quick as those basketball players. Maybe a small edge in strength to the basketball players mentioned...but size/strength ratio would probably even out.

Basketball players play in quarters and have a ridiculous number of regular timeouts and TV timeouts every game. They play on a court that is 30 yards, a soccer field is 120 yards. So even during the few fast breaks every game, a basketball player will never sprint more than 30 yards at a time. Basketball players stand still and "jog" just as much, if not more (probably more) than soccer players. If it's not a fast break, the only time a basketball player is "running" is when he's trying to create something with the ball or when a shooter is running around screens.

To think that any basketball player has more endurance than a high level soccer player just shows your ignorance.

Oh, and for vinylbandit, yeah review the games and penalize retroactively for obvious diving. You want to eliminate the behavior make sure that you get it right even if it's after the fact. Only soccer is dumb enough to have 1 guy trying to sdwatch 22 guys on a 120 yard field.
