This thread makes me sad to know of at least 5 people under 23 that are getting married. Maybe in 25 years, their kids will be posting the same thread.

^ because age is the sole determination of whether or not a couple stays together?

Well I can speak from personal experience (i.e. my parents) that getting married at a young age can create deep seeded resentment. Also, people change enormously from 20-25.

To anyone who is 25+, do you look back with hindsight and say that you could've married your SO at 21 and it would've been for the better?

yeah, my parents were 18 & 19 when they got married, and 22 & 23 when they had me.

Meh, I can kinda see where you're going with the age thing but at the same time I know some couples who are very happy and have a healthy relationship and were married under the age of 25.

My mom and dad got married when they were 17 and 19, respectively. My mom actually gave up a full ride to FSU for music to get married. But, everyone could see they didn't have a healthy relationship from the start...

Maybe you can have a healthy, stable marriage if you get married young, but whats the point? Why can't you wait until you're financially settled, have lived with the person, and give yourself a chance to become an adult individually?

I just see a tremendous risk in getting married young with no particular benefit to it. I guess taxes, but you aren't making enough in your early 20's to make the tax breaks that significant.

I mean, the people I know how have said healthy relationship lived together for two years. The girl went to nursing school while the guy worked (he's now going to school) and she was an RN before they were even married. They were engaged for over two years, as well... they just had their shit together, I guess. Not everyone has to do it the same way

I thought I was "in love" with my girlfriend when I was 21/22 and was probably going to get married to her.

Thank fucking god I didn't. Every single girl I've dated since her has been 100 times better, I can't even imagine being married to any of them. I'm 26, almost 27, and I think I'm now ready to just start thinking about marriage. But everybody's different.
