Pro tip: go to Amsterdam and smoke pot. After a few times when you're comfy try shrooms. Pot makes shrooms more comfy and better so you should be used to pot first.

I have in my hand a vial of 5x salvia extract. Set me back £15, plus £10 for the cool tiny pipe made of 2 pieces held together by magnets and the 2 pieces can be put together in another orientation to make a small cuboid.

Smoking it in an hour or two from now. Will post experience.

If I really like it, I might go back and get a 10x or 15x extract.

5x is pretty weak. you should probably smoke at least half a gram to get the full effect. its much better with weed though. if you think you are a paranoid person or might get upset easily you might want to put on some music that is familiar and pleasing to you, don't go for anything "trippy"

to get the full effects you need to use a VERY hot flame

a little cheapo pipe is going to heat up and probably burn your lips

you're DEFINITELY going to burn your mouth and lungs a bit if you get it hot enough

the 5x, 10x, i've seen as high as 40x, isn't standardized, but it should be scientific, at least. i think they just take whatever quantity of raw salvia they have on hand and take a portion of it, extract the rest and add it back to the reserved herb and dry it. so if they make 5x, they take 1/5 of the stuff and set it aside. then they make an extract of the remaining plant material and let it evaporate until it is fairly "dry". then they add this liquid back to the reserved raw salvia and if the extraction was efficient, the product should be 5 times as strong as that volume of unadulterated salvia. I'm pretty sure there's not much salvia breeding going on, so the stuff is probably mostly uniform in the salvinorin content.

it sucks because it's such a weak and shitty hallucinogen. Sure, you may think it was intense and enlightening if all you've ever done is lsd and low doses of shrooms. But salvia isn't as strong as taking really high dose of mescaline or shrooms, and it doesn't come anywhere close to the spiritual mindfuck that is datura or ayahausca. There are plenty of worthless tryptamine structures that will make your heart race, your body hot, and give you a 5 minute panic attack; that doesn't make them "true shamanic entheogens". The modern day shaman Alexander Shulgin was smart enough to write them off as such and focus on the chemicals he thought showed real potential.

Back when I was still in college I bought some 20x stuff. My best friends older brother, we will call Bill, who had been straight edge his entire life, ie broke our pipes when he found them and stuff like that, had now started smoking pot. I packed up a fat bowl of that salvia and told him it was really dank weed and that he needed to face the whole bowl. As soon as he stoped hitting it I could see the salvia working and said "Bill I didn't know you like to get wet" He started flipping out and we got 5-10 minutes of solid entertainment. We explained what we had done after he came down. he was pissed we thought it was hysterical

but yeah, anyone who causes someone else to trip without warning them is a dick, and deserves nothing less than to get their head pounded. my friends did a LOT of acid in the late 80s and early 90's and though we talked about how funny it might be, nobody i tripped with would even sneak acid to someone, even to someone they hated. it was widely understood to be a punk move.

yeah... except for the part where datura is a highly toxic poison and it's wildly divergent concentrations make it particularly difficult to control the dose of. It's most popular historical use has been for murder and suicide.

even when the concentration is controlled to NOT be fatal, the extreme physical sickness that usually results in hospitalization hardly makes this plant worthy of being called an entheogen. there are certainly more agreeable and more pychoactive plants available.

I never said anything about datura being user friendly. If you don't have the balls to chug down a homemade tea from jimson weed pods, then you could always try one of the other anticholinergic substances like diphenhydramine and cyclizine that are available OTC or through the internet in metered doses.

i dont know what the hell you people are smoking, but i love salvia. i've done it 6 or 7 times, and each have been great fun full of stories i still tell today.

with that being said, ive only tried weed, as far as other drugs go, and i hate weed.

if you like weed, you hate salvia.

if you hate weed, you might like salvia.
