i've never really gotten the love for sylvia's, either

it's like i love NY or amore's

decent and fast, but not GOOD

once again, frank's is fucking GOOD

Sylvia's can be bad if Sylvio isn't actually there. The other guys tend to leave it in the oven for too long or leave things sitting for way too long.

moonlight, lily's, and ruckus in no particular order. i feel each place fulfills a particular pizza genre.

oh we were due for another one of these threads?

my favs, in order: Piccola (by far), Wildflour, Moonlight, Lily's, Mellow (even though it is a chain, i love kosmic karma)

beyond that i would rather just eat a frozen pizza. but only one brand. home run inn.

but really i think my top 3 are Piccola, Wildflour and Moonlight.

^ and i TOTALLY disagree about amante. haha. it is ok. not on my favorites list at all and i definitely wouldn't put it with moonlight. moonlight's crust is the bomb.

My vote is for Mellow Mushroom. Ruckus is pretty damn good though, and one of the only places I've found in Raleigh that has green olives

this thread again?

but, for the sake of the thread, I think Moonlight and Cap Creations are both MILES better than Lily's.

^^I'll admit to liking Pizza Hut every now and then, but I've never had very good pizza from one of the ones in Raleigh. Not sure why the franchise seems to suck around here.

For real, I'd rather eat a tombstone or red baron than Pizza Hut (not Digiorno, those blow).

And I'd rather eat a 99 cent totinos pizza than Cici's.

Marco's is awesome for the cheesy bread, but their pizza is just okay. Not bad like Pizzamerica or I Heart NY, just not particularly good.

[Edited on July 11, 2010 at 11:30 PM. Reason : speaking of which, I am hungry and now ordering a cheesy bread.]

for me, marco's tastes like pizza hut.

sweet, thick sauce, and really puffy, almost too filling crust.

I might, possibly, be the only person i know that thinks that Lilly's Pizza is mediocre at best. Their toppings are top of the line, but their crust is too thick, and almost offputtingly sweet. Not to mention that they dust it with semolina which i just find annoying.

I also am not a fan of their sauce at all. Also too sweet.

I still say that Ruckus has better pizza than anywhere i have been in Raleigh. I have not been to Frank's, however. I will have to check that place out.

^ For my purposes here, yes, I do. But the topic is pizza--not my knowledge or lack thereof of subcultures.

FTR, I was using the term in the general sense. Meaning, one who is or thinks he or she is "hip."

You don't know jack shit about hipsters, five points, lilly's pizza or anything outside of the pathetic, insular little bubble that you call a life.

i know 85% of the lilly's staff

none of them are hipsters

and the rich old biddies who buy $8 slices of cake at hayes barton are totally hipsters

because five points is known for that sort of thing
