Doing the same thing in north Raleigh too, Millbrook road is all torn to shit and down to 1 or 2 lanes, they hit Glenwood around St. Marys a week or two ago.

Yeah, I've definitely had to find another route home. I ride a scooter and I drift like a mofo on the scraped area. Thats what I get for riding a scooter, I guess.

i feel you

i drive a matchbox car myself, and i feel the road trying to drive me around

i need to slow the heck down, cause the raised manholes are winging me when i bump over them

I like it because it keeps most people in one lane (away from the raised sections) meaning I can actually get somewhere on time instead of waiting behind a bunch of damn grandmothers

^^^ Hehe. My old roommate bought a motorcycle. With all of the road construction, the amount of roads he can actual drive on safely is slowly dwindling. I'm kind of happy about that, as I had to sit through him bragging about how much he spent every time he filled up his gas tank. Yet when it came down to getting groceries, who did he ask to go?

i can (and do) carry a week's worth of groceries on my scooter without any problems

then again, your story is about a motorcycle and unless you have all of the accessories, a motorcycle is rather useless for carrying groceries

besides, my scooter gets better gas mileage than any widely-available motorcycle and it goes just as fast as any motorcycle should be going off the interstate around here

it's strange...my scooter handles the milled road better than my saturn...not sure why...maybe because the tires are so thin

in other news, lake wheeler is almost done...i assume they'll finish the last bit today, given their rate or progress over the past two days

They finished milling Avent Ferry last night, now all 5 lanes are lousy to drive on, except there aren't any manholes in the far right lane, so its not as bad as it could be.

wat?

pretty sure it's not finished... unless they aren't doing some parts. I just drove and swore I didn't see much change from yesterday...

all of it looks milled with the exception of portion of the very far right lane going towards campus

it's definitely different from yesterday

Its all milled from at least Lake Dam Rd to Gorman, and I could see it milled all the way down past trailwood as I was waiting to turn. Maybe there is some area closer to campus that isn't finished, but the majority is done.

they've done work all the way down to the avent ferry/athens drive split

the part towards lake johnson is fine anyways, cause most of the bus routs cut up towards jones franklin

so this morning on the way to work, some lady decided that she was going to DODGE all of those raised areas and did this by swerving into wherever it was that there wasn't a problem, regardless if there were cars in the other lane or not

i shat 5 bricks

it was a goldurn free-for-all out there

They've milled most of the surface coarse now they're milling the base coarse and repaving it. I saw it going on last night.

Not a fan of avent ferry on a motorcycle. Think I'm gonna avoid that ride from now on.

I used to go Tryon to Gorman to AF to Varsity

Now it's Tryon to Trailwood to Main Campus Dr. I'd do it even without the stripped road if it weren't for the 25MPH school zone.

They went in and leveled off the manholes and utility points, which tells me it may be a while before they actually get to paving, and are doing this to prevent any damage to vehicles until that happens...

^^^You don't like that side to side wiggle?

^They've got the contract and broke ground. No reason to hurry now. We used to do that shit all the time...put our machinery on the ground, do a little work, then go back to our other projects already in progress. It sucks for the customer, but if you don't do it someone else will and you'll have worked yourself out of a job by the end of the month.

When they are done I think they are going to stripe it with bike lanes, at least between Athens and Gorman.

They had crews out last night near the Kangaroo gas station, but it looks like they only paved a small strip, nothing major is underway though.

It looks paved in short strips in random places near the Gorman intersection and a bit of the way towards campus.

A little bit more drivable and comfortable but I'm still not going in the manhole lane.

wow, pretty sure i saw that guy trying to direct traffic. i was thinking he was going to get hit. there were no cones around him and he was just standing in the middle of the road pointing for people to get to the left. he had to jump out of the way for the car behind me that didnt get over in time. pretty sure from what i saw this is his/the company's fault

it's all still shit.

And I highly doubt anything is sticking up FOUR inches above the rest of the road. If so you'd have a lot of cars hitting it with their bumpers, blowing out tires, etc.

WTF

why does the city/state/whoever let them trash a road and leave it that way for weeks/months on end?

i've noticed it with Glenwood, Avent Ferry and Millbrook in North Raleigh. I also know someone who busted their tire on Avent Ferry a couple weeks ago. It simply isn't safe.

Fuck Avent Ferry until this is done. Lake Wheeler road took a month and a half for about a half-mile stretch. I will avoid the road at all costs until I hear this has been fixed.

^^It's some horseshit. Plus all those little asphalt pebbles cover the road and my car with its sticky tires just LOVES flinging them up all over the place (including against the car's paint )

It's in the specs so they put it in the schedule.

It's in the specs to leave the road like shit, intentionally, for a few weeks? Why, so we as citizens appreciate it when it's been repaired?

Yea lets hope, the thing I hate the most is people turning off Avent Ferry, who slow down to like 5mph to mount the old pavement...its like an inch up and not going to harm your car in anyway to go a little faster... It sucks when turning from Avent Ferry onto Gorman and some douche holds up the whole lane and lets like 2 cars get through before its red...

They were tearing up some bottom layer last night around varsity intersection and repaving it right away. It looks like they have done that in several places all over.

this is gonna be sweeeeeeet when school starts on wednesday compounded with the university shutting down some of the commuter lots/roads to build a new parking deck

i'm starting to wonder about the most insane, crazy back-route ever that i've got tucked in my brain
