If we take our time, monitor wildlife, and really consider what a "viable" population is, then we can achieve successful re-introductions of even huge ass land mammals like the Elk. I'm not arguing that they've made it yet, or that they are ready to have some (extremely limited) hunting applied to their population (that is for biologists with more degrees than what I have to answer). I'm only arguing that animal reintroduction is very possible, meaningful, a respectful goal, and a huge win for anyone that loves nature (be it the most white-collar, binocular wielding, rei vest wearer all the way to uncle Fud in overalls). This is winning.
