I mean, the main reasons cannons were used on an open battlefield was for the fear factor.

Imagine a weaponized dumptruck. Awesome.

I started a thread similar to this asking what my brother-in-law's brother is to me. Is he my brother-in-law as well, or just some dude related to my sister's husband?

Depends on if you're Korean or not. They seem to have special names for virtually everyone you could potentially be related to, even "once removed"

Better make it quick though, since gasoline and diesel fuel weren't invented for another 20 years.

i dont know about just one dumptruck. maybe a bunch of dumptrucks. unless you guys are talking about dumptruck technology in general. i didnt know dumptrucks were impervious to cannonbawls.

Take some of the steel used for the bed and armor the front with it.

Or any steel really, since they had that available.

^^We need FroshKiller to weigh in on the scenario since he brought it to TWW in the first place

even if you're allowed to have gasoline, all the other side has to do is shoot whoever's driving the truck

the usefulness of tanks lies in the fact that they are armored...the only way to protect the truck-driver would be to replace the windshield with steel or iron

and that wouldn't work, obviously

yo lemme get a BTTT on this

I missed out on all the dumptruck talk and would like to weigh in

basically I think as long as the doors of the dumptruck were locked, you wouldnt have to worry about it being overrun or captured, mainly because if union soldiers got in the bed, the driver could just press a button and dump them right back on the battlefield, legs all splayed and uniforms lookin all muddied

also, if it had a gatling gun on it, you could pretty much chalk it up as a battle won by the south

but on that same note, if the union had backhoes, the rebels would have lost the war a whole lot faster

And, having given the idea to the morons here, see what happens? Rousing indeed.

(This moron's opinion--if they'd had a whole fleet of them, yes. Part of the South's problem was poor transporation and industrial infrastructure, including railroads. And driver protection is cake--ever heard of iron bars?)

this thread

I lurve it lol

if youre gonna take a dump truck and reinforce the sides and place steel over the tires and put a Gatling gun on it why don't you just go ahead and say its a tank instead because thats not a dump truck

also to the whole cannon were only used for fear purposes idea, thats BS. They were used to destroy fortifications and in battles where soldiers were organized in lines (i.e. gettysburg, shiloh, bull run) they were extremely deadly. one well timed volley could shred a line up and send anyone left uninjured running.

anyway, no way in hell one dumptruck provides any sort of meaningful use to the south

in my culture, my sister's husband, his brothers, and all his male cousins become my brothers-in-law. I call their moms, dads, aunts, and uncles just as they would, unless I was previously related to them already.

the same goes with my wife's family, of course

What if you always ran the dumptruck in reverse with the bed down?

And your army could follow behind.

Then who would win?

The guy driving the dump truck in reverse would have too hard of a time seeing where he was going. I still stand by the idea of using the metal from the bed to armor plate the front and hauling troops in the back of it.
