Bill Clinton was nearly removed from the office of President of the United States because he got his dick sucked.

Smear campaigns are not exclusive to either gender. This is just her opposition taking whatever ammunition it can get. If a non-sexual narrative were more convenient for them, they'd be forming that narrative in a heartbeat.

It wouldn't shock me if it comes out that she actually leaked those photos. She had almost zero name recognition (even with a name like that) before the pictures came out, but the resulting shitstorm brought her into the spotlight and landed her some primetime interviews on the major networks.

Now with all the publicity and the sexism card going for her, she has a snowball's chance in hell, rather than no chance in hell.

I'll buy that it appeals to that, but I don't think misogyny is the impetus here any more than misandry was the cause behind the Lewenski case or, in this case, was the reason a man was wearing a red rubber penis on his nose in those photos.


This is, bluntly, politics. If anything, Ms. Ball was using "sexism" as a counter to the charge in the first place and handled the issue about as well as she could by addressing it and moving on.

This is going to be a regular thing for any under-30 candidate from now on. Give it 10 years, nobody will give a shit.

But, yes, the controversy does stem from a double standard. A guy would have to be "caught" doing something a whole lot worse for it to even register.

My wife, for what it's worth, considers this more stupid than sexist, and mentioned that she's lucky she isn't running for public office if that's the standard for acceptability.

That depends on the context and the candidate. I could see photographs of a guys weekend in Vegas causing similar problems for a candidate if the relevant media outlets chose to make it an issue. I think that is the bigger issue here, this one came and went for Krystal Ball relatively quickly largely because, while salacious, it occurred some time ago and isn't that uncommon. It wasn't much in the way of news. Had these occurred once she was in office . . .

The ad is nice, it highlights a few important issues, and that she's not the incumbent. But to win, she'd need a much bigger game changer than that.

She runs her own small business, she's a CPA, she's a member of the NRA, and her website focuses on stuff like veterans, education, 2nd amendment rights, and middle class tax cuts, and she's not the "Washington insider." You'd think that message would play to conservative district, but instead she's going to be crushed by the guy who refused to debate her, and who said he stands for this: "As a member of the Values Action Team, I will continue to support pro-life, pro-family legislation. I will work in defense of parental rights, religious liberty, and the definition of marriage as a union between one man and one woman. Furthermore, I support efforts to curb internet pornography and obscenity."


Following her campaign was interesting though, more interesting than I expected when I first took interest. 538 projects 60.5% of the vote for the incumbent, and 37% for Krystal. I'll try and remember to post the actual results when they come in and see if she does any better than the projections. Less than a week left.
