they make different sized nalgenes. i have one that fits.

and theres a version of the klean kanteen (and target brand versions) that definitely fits as well

there are plenty of reusable bottles that fit in car cup holders. this is the dumbest thing i've ever heard.

Plain and simple. If you don't subscribe to that shit, then don't drink bottled water.

Because I'm out, managed to not have a bottle handy, and am thirsty as fuck. Pretty simple.

Or, as was the case in may, I bought a 6pack of bottled water solely for the bottles (the deer park flip cap business is VERY handy when driving (cross-country), as opposed to the screw-off lid on my reusable bottles that do fit my cup holders.)

While I'm not the one making this argument, I do want to respond to this comment: a lot of people have well water. It's fallacious to start from a point that assumes everyone gets filtered municipal water.

One of the awesome things about living in an arid climate is that requests for water/to fill a bottle are always honored, even if you're not buying anything else. And one's luck is better with getting ice, too.

^^^ I don't think it's bad to buy bottled water for the bottle. My grandparents do that.

As for well water, you do have a point about that. However, anyone who uses well water should have it tested often. Obviously, if people have water from the tap that isn't healthy to drink, bottled water is a viable alternative.

if the question is "why buy bottled water?"

the ONLY correct answer is "because I am in Mexico"

^ HAHAH. Yeah. I had to buy bottled water in China. But I'm referencing here in the US, where it's rare to actually need to buy bottled water.

I used to buy bottled water regularly and the only reason is because I was too lazy to get a glass of ice and fill it with tap water. I've stopped though because it's a complete waste of $ and plastic.

Only time I buy it is if I'm out somewhere that sells bottled drinks, thirsty, and not in the mood for soda/tea/juice.

I have a brita at home. I swear it makes the water taste better, though my tap water tastes OK anyway. More importantly it keeps the water cold.

I take a nalgene to work. Fill it from the water fountain, which produces nice cold neutral-tasting water. Take it home every few days and stick it in the dishwasher. No, it doesn't fit in my cup holder, but I also usually bring coffee in a travel mug in the morning, so I can rinse that and fill it with water on my way home.

Simple and cost-effective.

I keep a glass fifth sized vodka bottle that I keep full of water in my fridge. Every couple of weeks it goes in the dishwasher. I've had that bottle for probably 6 or 7 years now. Glass > Plastic.

For the road I have a bunch of Nalgene bottles. I only bought one or two at REI. All the rest were thrift store finds @ $.50 or less except for one that I found while out biking. I always pack a cooler when I take a trip, so I'll fill five or six Nalgenes with water and throw them in too.

There is a Nalgene size that fits snugly in your car's cupholder. It's 16 oz iirc. Nalgene bottles have caps, so it's really not that important for it to fit in your cupholder anyway. Just set it on the seat or within reach on the floor.

Bottled water is a waste. With a little planning I don't see why anyone needs to buy more than a few bottles per year.

The Nalgenes make great shaker bottles for protein shakes and pre-workout supplements too. Also great for pre-mixed liquor drinks to take on the boat or just to chug at the car before you go in the club.

+1

I remember filling a glass of water from the sink of my brothers house in wilmington when he came and said "Yeahhhhhhhh, I test that water for a living. You should really run that through some kind of filter".

I drank it anyways
