How about how it's all awkward when being a Lutheran and watching Star Wars?

"May the force be with you"

"And also with you"

"My office suite is at the end of a very long hallway off the main common area that has (not counting some utility closets) only two other doors along the entire way. It seems like every time I come or go, there is someone coming the other way and this situation occurs. I spend an inordinate amount of time looking at the walls like I've never seen them before or pretending to be lost in thought so that I'm not staring at the other person for 100 feet of space until we pass. Then I try to give a nod or some minor pleasantry, but half the time the other person continues looking down or away and walks past without a word.
"

fuck, this drives me crazy.

i've got two long stretches of corridor at different places in my building that i have to travel alot and people are always approaching from long distances in passing.

i've got to spend most of the travel time looking elsewhere as if i'm preoccupied, then at the last second or two, look up acknowledge them with a smile and nod, maybe a "hey", as if i just noticed they were there.

i've tried the other way, where i look forward at them, the entire time, while trying to maintain a pleasant but non-committal look on my face, and that just does not work. Talk about uncomfortable: staring at someone for 5-10 seconds as you approach them, but without having anything to say to them.

:bleah:

The only thing worse than a long hallway is a long hallway with a door at the end. You need to watch for people in front of, behind, and maybe outside the door. I just end up saying fuck it and doing a thousand yard stare til I'm safe.

I've done the "love ya" thing on the phone more than once, to male friends. It's been years, I haven't caught any crap over it lately.

That has to be one of the most insane of the "uber-PC" policies that I've heard of. I suppose women aren't allowed to give presentations, lead meetings, or ask questions when men are present? A meeting would be pretty awkward if everyone in the room has to look down at the table or up at the ceiling when a woman is speaking.

What you must do, of course, is catch a woman looking at you for more than 7 seconds, and then claim discrimination until the rule is changed. Once no one can look at anyone else for more than 7 seconds...hey! No more meetings! In fact everyone should telecommute, it would be safer. But no video conferences--they will result in harrassment.

yup... the more you think about it, the more the rule breaks down into ridiculousness

Reporter: "Back here live at the Waterfront Village with my friend the zombie, Jonathan. You're looking good. Jonathan just got an awesome face paint job. What do you think?

Zombie Jonathan: "I like turtles."

Reporter: "...Alright. You're a great...zombie. Good times here at the Waterfront Village."
