So instead of looking at Facebook, you'd rather students spend their time cracking stupid software on their machines? Either way they aren't going to be paying attention to their professors if they don't want to.

So I take it the university is providing these laptops to the students? Or is this like a lab environ? Otherwise no student will let you install this after they realize what it is. Personally I know a great many students here that distrust anything the helpdesk asks you to put on ( like AV software) fearing its being used to spy on them.

No, it'll be the students laptops and they are required to accept the software to take the class (or this is the way the higher ups want it to work).Highly coercive bullshit IMHO, if someone implements I'll make a thread about hacking that shit and send it out to everyone at that college.

^ Yep, that method is just begging for abuse.

Its also asking for privacy lawsuits.

then only a hop, skip, and jump away from turning on webcams to "find stolen laptops"and for that software.. install it in a VM on the laptop, ignore the VM, profit.ha, and it not only allows the professor to look at their screen, it logs keystrokes.[Edited on July 29, 2010 at 8:18 PM. Reason : .]

So... A school is going to require them to install specific, invasive, software on a laptop that the student paid for. Sorry. I would decline and tell them where they can shove their software. And if they want to press the issue any further, then I'll be sure to everyone and everything of their bullshit as well as consulting a lawyer. Now, if the school wants to pay for the laptop and make it part of the conditions to require that the laptop have the software upon my acceptance of the software, then that's something different. If a professor wants to keep students from having their laptop out in class and yell at students for having cell phones out, I'm fine with that as well. But I have a problem with a school essentially requiring that we install malware onto our computer that we paid for.
