I still love you TenaciousC, even though you're riding the short bus on this one.

the state never does anything like this to save money. even if it will save them money in theory, they will find a way to fuck it up. the state always does.

Wow, I am flabbergasted by the sheer amount of fail coming from TenaciousC on this one.

I think they're just screwing around with some things because the login method seems to have changed.

Help desk it if you want.

Expect brick-walling.

Why did they do it?

"NC State announced in January that it would deploy Google Apps Education Edition as its official university e-mail service for students. The switch was recommended by the Student E-mail Task Force in its March 2009 report, which stated the move would help the university improve technology services for students while reducing costs."

Here's a pretty detailed report of what the costs would have been to stick with the old system vs. the newer systems:

Gmail is also only like 10x better.

So I don't know why this digging for truth is required.

"OIT decided to replace the Shibboleth log-in process with the native Google log-in process to avoid further inconvenience to students while we enhance the Shibboleth environment. The new log-in process will be very familiar to students who have used a personal Gmail or Google account.

Changing or synchronizing your password will allow you to authenticate through the Google log-in page. OIT's office of Security and Compliance has certified that all passwords are kept secure during this process, making it completely safe for users to log in using this new method.

How long did you wait? Its taking on average an hr before gmail works after a password change/resync due to everyone doing it.

Also the helpdesk is swamped with calls about it. I think they broke it more than they say they did or people just cant read directions. Expect a wait getting help if you put a case in.

Let's screw with the system right before all the undergrads move into their dorms and flip out when they can't print off their bookstore receipt that's in their NCSU gmail account thinking they actually need it. I can't imagine these consequences will ever be the same.

works fiine for me now, don't have to go to that shibboleth site anymore either. Try accessing it through the ncsu website, itll take you to a more reliable login screen

"I believe Shibboleth was something in the Cthulhu Mythos."
It was originally a Hebrew word for where a grain-plant keeps its grains and was used to differentiate one tribe from another in the Bible, because one of the tribes couldn't say it correctly.
