Im not trying to defend this holland guy, but I find it hard to believe that some of you crusaders for truth and justice ho are on your moral high horses would not or have not at least asked for copies of old tests from people who took a class prior to when you did

^^^ i honestly can't blame that guy for trying to get the final for acc200. that test was impossible when i took it in spring 2006. it was written by the head of the accounting department (you know, the guy who didn't teach the class for 3-4 months) and was filled with shit that robin thomas had never shown us all semester. i went into that final with probably an A- because basic accounting shit is not hard, and i ended up with a B- for the semester because of that test. the only reason i passed was because she had to curve the hell out of it.

What if you go to another instructor's website for the same class, and you download his homework problems/solutions and his test problems/solutions (these are non-password protected and easily found) to help give you more practice for another teacher's exam (in addition to any material and past homework your own professor put online)? I'm not talking about finding solution manuals or getting past tests/exams from friends. But going straight to a professor's website and getting stuff for a different section of the class? This is all hypothetical, of course.

I personally think it is good studying. Getting as much practice as possible. Even though the format may be different, it's still the same material.

^^Seriously, one of the things that makes tests so hard (for us folks who don't cheat) is that professors make their tests (and homework) harder from year-to-year based on the performance of their previous class (which includes a lot of cheaters).

So tests get harder and harder to keep up with cheaters, but cheaters continue to do well while everyone else struggles their butts off to keep up with the hard tests.

Mine test to make sure that you understand the concepts and have the basic problem solving skills to progress to whatever the next level is. They also in general listen to feedback about what helps with material and what isn't. At least the professors that have waitlists every semester.

haha, i had one professor who was retiring at the end of the semester when i took his class, and he gave us the final from the previous semester (or year, can't remember) to review. the final he gave my class was exactly the same. dude just stopped giving a fuck.
