I think we should try our best to dispel myths or "common sense" ideas about suicide. Every single threat or attempt must be taken seriously. People who attempt or threaten suicide in a manipulative way or an attention-seeking way are so frustrating and so annoying...and, unfortunately, they're often the same people who eventually complete the act "successfully."

On the other end of things, I would remind suicidal folks that the best way is to make it look like an accident. I know that concealing the suicide may not be a top priority at the time, but really, it's just the polite thing to do for the folks you leave behind.

I agree, the best thing to do is to give them someone to blame. Step out in front of a car, that way they can always blame that guy for killing u.

^No, that is not polite! You cannot include other people in your demise.

You gotta do like a gun-cleaning accident or a one-car accident or accidental drug overdose or a hiking accident.

No note obviously. And even if you've told people of your intentions, a realistic accident will leave enough doubt, and any decent person will not (openly) connect it back to your suicidal talk...cause, again, that's not polite.

The only reason I'm talking about this is because joe_schmoe is being a such a doosh. He readily admits that it devastates families and destroys lives, but then he encourages people to set themselves ablaze in the middle of the brickyard.

I purposefully misspelled "douche," by the way. I like the way it looks, and I'm hoping the new spelling will catch on.

I think suicide is a valid life choice.

Just be sure.

wtf is this "be polite to the people you leave behind" shit?

I'm fairly certain that if I ever sink to the point that I off myself, I'll be leaving a letter detailing the family and friends that ignored or blew me off when I tried to talk about my depression and NOT setting up an elaborate scheme to help the people who let me down feel better about themselves.

It's fascinating to hear the argument that "suicide is selfish"... as if you owe it to other people to remain alive.

Ultimately, you had no choice in your birth, though many would argue (as would I, I think) that at some point, your continued existence became (primarily) your responsibility (so one could, in effect, "blame you" for being alive still)....

but that doesn't, to me, justify saying that suicide is selfish. It's your life, we like to say here in these United States, until you try to end it, then it's not your life anymore. Nonsensical, to me.

I won't lie. I have seriously considered it. But I am not sure exactly what way would, within my means, be swift enough. Pain is acceptable, as long as it's swift.

The problem is she said her caring about her cat is what stopped her from killing herself.

That might be one of the most retarded things I've ever read. If I was her husband I'd be really pissed off.

And the fact that she made a thread declaring it was her who wrote the message implies either she is a huge attention seeking jerkoff, or she is crying out for help. However, if she was crying out for help so blatantly as to admit to wanting to kill herself on a public forum, I don't think she would have spoken so high and mighty about her ideas dealing with the subject.

All in all I think she is seeking attention.
