^^well yes, it is- but until I came to nc state, no one raved about bojangles or held it any higher than any of the other places


that wasn't a personal attack- I personally like brueggers as my favorite place for breakfast that you can find in most towns- does that make it a taste of the carolinas since it is personal experience and can be a shared experience of the state?

aight. i just looked it up: Slim Jims were invented and originally made in Philadelphia, before being sold to General Mills. GM moved the plant to Garner NC after it bought Jesse Jones sausage.

they are all over SC, GA, etc.

Breuggers: specialty: "New York Style" Bagels .... Headquartered in Vermont. First Store in New York. Locations now spread nationally from Canada to Florida, Massachusetts to California.

Bojangles: specialty: southern style chicken, biscuits, and fixins. Headquartered in Charlotte NC, First Store in Charlotte NC. eventually spread to other Southeastern states, with only a few outliers in Pennsylvania and Maryland. and contrary to a previous post, there are no Bojangles stores in New York.

Bojangles was pretty popular among people I knew in Greensboro. It was the holy grail of senior lunches, reserved for special occasions.

While I'm sure there are better chicken joints in NC, none is so prevalent. Everyone in the state has eaten at Bojangles multiple times. Bubba's Chicken Shack out in bumfuck may be better, but nobody's heard of it. For that reason it deserves a place on the list. Or, if you can't agree to that, it's certainly more deserving then herring or sugar cake (which I've never heard of).

Also, I'm going to go out on a limb here and suggest our take on Mexican food. You go north of here at all, shit's different (and shitty). You go south of here, it's different (maybe not as shitty. but still kind of shitty). From what I can tell we have our own variant of it and people who move from here consistently lament that they can't get it anymore.

Oh sure, I agree with all that. The point is that there is a certain taste to the Mexican food in NC. Others may be better, but this is undeniably ours.
