I cut off about 10 cars per day on my commute to work then. 20 on the way back.

^ Take a trip down 66 in northern Virginia without cutting anyone off and let me know how it goes. If you can even merge onto it.

I so wanted to embed Jimmy Fallon's "Road Rage" in here, but I can't find it on youtube. How shocking...

I won't say I never do it...if they're being a dick and intentionally not being accommodating, then fuck 'em...or if I'm stuck behind a slow car in the right lane, and a slightly less slow car passes by in the left lane, I'll get over (if there's a reasonable space) even if another faster car is approaching from behind (he was going to have to slow down for the car I just pulled in behind, anyway).

In general, though, you shouldn't cause people behind you on the highway to even lift the accelerator when you change lanes in front of them. Same thing for pulling out into traffic from an intersection, etc. Either get on the fucking gas and get out of the way, or wait.

by that (overkill) definition of "cutting people off," I do it all the time where I live/commute. 80% of the time, I'm trying to get somewhere (5-10 over) and so-and-so is checking out scenery or in deep conversation with their passenger. It's just best to assume that no one will want to go faster than me

I'm sure that definition works great in east bumblefuck. In places with people and traffic, not so much.

I cut people off, they cut me off. That's just how it goes up here. The difference is that I don't get all whiny about it like a woman.

An actual picture of what I deal with on a daily basis:

yeah, I lived in NoVa for 6 months...lived just north of Seattle for over a year. Grew up in Raleigh. Driven in Italy and in Doha, Qatar (craziest, hands-down). For the most part, you don't need to cut people off.

Yeah ok. Tell me how to get into that shit above then without causing someone else to lift the accelerator.

wow, you need to take a chill pill and maybe review some of the guidelines for defensive driving. you can't will every dumb-ass out of your way no matter how much you tailgate, so just relax and go with the flow. if you're in a hurry, shoulda left sooner!

i get irritated as hell at people who are in my way (not so much on 2-lane roads, but if they're in wrong...like in the passing lane, or if they pull out in front of me on a 2-lane road and then go slow, etc), whether or not I'm in a hurry.

For the most part, I don't speed because I'm in a hurry...I speed because I hate driving at painfully slow speeds. Same thing with people in my way...even if I'm not in a hurry, I get pissed when people are in my way because they did or are doing something stupid or wrong.

i highly doubt that

i seriously doubt you know what you're doing, and you can't be in both, anyway. if you're reckless some of the time, you're in the 1% group. regardless, you're probably in the 60% group (although maybe the "dangerously incompetent" 15% group).

75% of the people on the road think they know what they're doing. 70% of the people on the road are wrong.

I know with 100% certainty that couldn't be true. She's also under the misguided notion that she's intelligent, and we can all plainly see how far off she is on that one. It's not surprising that she's also delusional about her driving ability as well.

but I am in the 3%

Used to do SCCA autoX and some track, but being a woman I obviously wasn't that good at it.

Plus I hate driving for more than two hours - it's just so boring.

you just can't let your car out and find any good turns

I'm not a great driver, but I'm pretty lucky (as in, when I screw up, it doesn't cause damage). I'll gladly admit that most women are HORRIBLE drivers.

(And pointing out the driving flaws of a particular group based on race, gender, whatever--if based on observational evidence--is not racist/sexist/whatever-ist. Suggesting a harder test, however, is a poor solution, and it's not like all white males are perfect drivers. They're the ones I see exhibiting road rage most often.)

I get mad sometimes when I drive, but not often, and I don't do anything about it. Usually it's when people do blatantly awful things like drive up the breakdown lane in traffic on the interstate, or cut me off and steal my parking space at the DMV.
