see, in the first part of my statement there i did not include the word situational or sit. not all comedies are situational ones. 9/28/2010 2:21:16 PM |

This thread title is completely wrong.
The show is titled "$#*! My Dad Says" which is read aloud as "Bleep My Dad Says"
Just another reason why this show concept doesn't work on network television.
I heard it was giving DVRs trouble... 9/28/2010 2:22:15 PM |

This is from the article you cited as proof that they aren't sitcoms:
Quote : | "Unlike earlier single camera shows, these sitcoms do not use laugh tracks. Recently, a pastiche from the UK has been utilized in American sitcoms, as many are being shot as a pseudo-documentary " |

no, you just don't know what the fuck a sitcom is.
Quote : | "A television situation comedy, often shortened to sitcom, is a genre of comedy that features recurring characters in a common environment such as a home or workplace, accompanied with jokes as part of the dialogue." |

Awful....just awful.
And yes, it was worse than Outsourced. I didn't think Outsourced was terrible...it at least has some potential. Shit my dad says on the other hand, is just terrible. 9/28/2010 9:09:44 PM |

The potential for more jokes about indian food causing diarrhea or the guy's name being Manmeet? That's about the only potential it seems like it has to me. 9/28/2010 9:12:30 PM |

^I was definitely not a fan of the fart jokes...just kinda dumb. But overall, I didn't think the show was terrible (especially compared to "shit my dad says"). I'll give Outsourced another couple of episodes before I really write off... 9/29/2010 12:11:24 AM |

modern family, the office, and parks & rec are not the same as friends, seinfeld, 2.5 men, big bang theory, etc. those in the last group are examples of typical sitcoms. the first group isn't. they're not filmed the same, they have interviews/character directly addresses the camera, no laugh track, no audience, and they're not lame as fuck and written for people with an iq <50. 9/29/2010 3:46:07 PM |

BUT...they are still sitcoms. plain and simple.
If we want to discuss the finer details of situational comedies, single camera and multi-camera set ups and the like then lets create a thread for it. But this thread should have never made it to page 2 just like SMDS should have never made it to episode 2. ] 9/29/2010 3:51:28 PM |

no i really do think seinfeld is bad. i didn't find borat funny either, but that's irrelevant.
for the most part...actually i can't think of one good one right off the top of my head...30 min sitcoms are just way too corny and stupid for me. i'm not everybody or the be all/end all, so y'all can continue to watch them, but i think they're lame.
i gave shit my dad says a shot, albeit tiny, but i tried. 9/29/2010 4:21:57 PM |

You're coming off as incredibly obtuse so I'll try to make this easy for you: the defining feature of a sitcom is not a laugh track or studio audience it's that it takes place in a common location (i.e. the office in The Office, or Jerry's apartment in Seinfeld) with recurring characters. Just because one sitcom is stylistically different (i.e. mockumentary) from others does not mean it isn't a sitcom. 9/29/2010 4:38:10 PM |

Becker is probably the best example of how a sitcom can take place in multiple place. You have Becker's office and the coffee shop as the principal locations, but sometimes they go to different locales like Becker's apartment and Central Park, all while examining the many quirks and idiosyncrasies of the characters that made it such an engaging program. 9/29/2010 4:47:27 PM |

Becker isn't the best example of anything, except maybe the best example of wasting Tad Danson's talent. 9/29/2010 4:50:29 PM |

no, i'm pretty sure the defining feature of a sitcom is an audience or laugh track, and cheesiness. if a show has neither of those, it's not a sitcom. 9/29/2010 5:08:20 PM |

Broadcast networks speaking; This may be one of the most disappointing fall seasons I can remember in some time as far as new premieres. I've given almost everything (that i knew wasn't already terrible) a chance and i really haven't found one new show I can safely say i'll watch week in and week out except Hawaii 5-0. The latest disappoint is Undercovers.
Though, i did somewhat enjoy Blue Bloods. But it being a Friday drama means it will most likely become DVR fodder. 9/29/2010 8:54:06 PM |

^yeah the networks pretty much shat all over themselves this development season, and Lone Star's failure might make the networks even less likely to take chances on quality programming next season.9/30/2010 12:43:07 PM |

The "success" of feces my dad says has prompted CBS to pick up the rights to develop two other twitter feeds into sitcoms.
Quote : | "So essentially, all old sitcom tropes are suddenly new again, provided they’re filtered through the secondhand superiority of a Twitter feed. Look for the “Overheard Brash Single Mom” and “The Sometimes Dumb Things The Attractive Co-Ed Twentysomethings Living Next Door To Me Do On Their Way To Finding Love And Professional Success” feeds soon." |
