Animal politics & animal welfare is a hot topic these days. This year the NC General Assembly successfully passed Susie's Law to raise awareness and strength penalties on severe animal abuse.

However they failed to pass a puppy mill ban b/c the port industry rallied tons of calls to and pressure on legislators not to, because if you don't keep puppies in parvo-prone overcrowded deplorable conditions, then next thing you know your family of 4 will starve when they are banned from eating bacon (as if that would ever happen in NC or America).
