for page 2: Quote : | "America should actually accept and embrace multiculturalism, instead of the "lip service" it currently gets.
We act like we're all about it, but the 2-party corporatist system only "knows" statism and cultural homogeneity.
The right wants everyone to spiritually assimilate, the left wants everyone to economically assimilate, and the middle wants everyone to politically assimilate, but only [liberal] libertarians accept people for who they, their wallets, and their politics are.
America is not a melting pot -- it is a mosaic. A beautiful, complicated, vociferous, and wonderfully inefficient mosaic.
The left wants everyone to be on the left, the right wants everyone to be on the right, the middle wants everyone to be a nonsensical mix of left and right, but only [liberal] libertarians want a fair system where everyone can simply be who they are, and best get along." |
Seriously, [liberal] libertarianism is farm more suitable for a multicultural society than (democrat) liberalism or (republican) conservatism. Quite simply, the left and right are in a culture war, fighting for cultural dominance. Multiculturalism is suppressed in such a fight. Libertarians, while technically in the fight, aren't fighting for cultural dominance, we're fighting for cultural freedom for all. You simply cannot successfully argue that the left or right is better suited for maximizing cultural freedom. A diverse society is a free society. Neither the left nor the right wants a free society. The left wants to control your wallet and fork, while the right wants to control your bedroom and science books. Only libertarians want you to have the control, and not the government.
That is all.

The problem is that the majority of people do not want freedom. They get freaked out when people wear "scary" religious outfits on planes and lose their shit when women kiss in public. They also lose their shit when the government doesn't repair the road next to their house fast enough and sue after they ate 10 cans of tuna every day for a year and get mercury poisoning.

They say we get the government we deserve. I don't think that's entirely true. I get the government that the vast majority of Americans deserve. 10/22/2010 6:54:11 PM |
