@ khcadwal, Honestly, kids are fairly crafty. When I was 11, I knew exactly where my dad hid the rifle, shotgun and hand cannon in the house, plus I knew where he hid the keys and how to unlock the trigger guards. Plus being in boy scouts, I was fairly knowledgeable about how to shoot them correctly. I would show them to friends, even though I knew it was wrong, but other then that, I didn't do anything bad. I mean if I parents smoked drugs, I could probably find them too.

Shit, my friend found his dad's hidden stash of porn in the walls around that age too.

We really don't know that they smoked pot in front of their kids, the kid could have just found it while rummaging around in their shit. Clearly this was an error in judgment on the parents part, which may be symptomatic of their decision-making as a whole, but you can't tell me that kid is better off in foster care based on what we know.

People smoke cigarettes in front of their kids. They drink in front of their kids. And if you think pot should be legal, then maybe it would be okay to do that in front of your kids as well.

If it's so terrible to smoke pot in front of your kids, then maybe parents shouldn't be doing it at all. Hmmm...

If they are good parents and their child just stumbled upon their stash and told on them at school, they'll get their kids back. Short of making their child smoke pot, they'll probably get their kids back. Depending on how bad the situation is, they may have to jump through quite a few hoops. And as long as there are family members willing to take the children in, the children won't get caught up in the foster system.

It's like, if you are a parent who decides to smoke, do you tell your kids that you smoke and be honest with them about the effects of he drug. Even if you did, it would be for the most part opposite of what the D.A.R.E. instructor would say. The kid would be all conflicted n shit.

DARE uses the same peer pressure and scare tactics to keep kids off drugs that they claim evil druggies will use to get kids to do drugs.

The problem with DARE is that it doesn't tell kids why you would want to do drugs, or even how they can be done safely. When kids grow up, and realize they were fed bullshit, they're probably more likely to try drugs.

^a large majority of the people that I knew in my 5th grade DARE class ended up selling drugs when they hit college.

I can't say that I've ever seen my parents do drugs. In fact, I'm 100% sure that they don't. I can honestly say that this would never happen in my family if my parents DID do drugs.

SO, I'm sitting here thinking to myself.... thinking of what my parents may have taught me when I was a kid.... thinking of what would have prevented something like this from happening.

Exactly, I always politely refuse and they have that same sentiment of "good, I wasn't gonna give it to you for free anyways" but not in a dickish way. Even my higher class friends who have money and smoke never offer me anything, but I don't do anything just for the simple fact that all my friends think I would go ape shit because I'm already a product of Tokyo... my mind is already gone

Not paranoid. Just felt weird. I never knew he smoked until then. I forget how it happened but basically I was with my friends at his spot and we smoked my dad's weed.

BTW I wasn't saying I never smoked pot again, just not with my dad. I didn't stop smoking pot until later in life.

reminds me of another friend who stayed with his uncle up in NY for a summer, found out halfway during his stay that his uncle smoked when he found his stash hidden in his computer after he opened it up and tried to fix it. In the end, I went up to hang with him when they had a family reunion, which ended up where everyone thought I was the adopted Asian kid from Tennessee named Johnny... His whole family, mainly white, must have been high the two days I visited.
