I don't know. I never said I didn't want to pursue an engineering career. It's just taken a while to find something I enjoy doing and I've been bouncing around internships trying to figure that out. I got this offer, it's something I'd enjoy doing and believe I could excel at, in a great location, pays well, so I took it. I feel you about getting out of engineering but right now this is what I want to do.
I got the engineering degree because it shows people I can think and problem solve. I know plenty of engineering majors who went into finance, business, or something else and are far happier and making more money than if they pursued an engineering job.
I don't believe graduates should be restricted by their major. A degree is more of a catalyst to find the right job, not a single track to one. 10/20/2010 4:39:01 PM |

well, you'll never go wrong getting an engineering degree, and no one can take it away. so good for you on that.
i'm just a bit surprised about an engineer waiting a year to seek out some "website analytics"... but you know, if that's a first step on your larger career path, who am i to say otherwise.
I know a MSEE who went and got his MBA and then he transferred from our engineering group into marketing. I still shake my head and say WTF DOOD every time i see him.
but he'll probably be CEO somewhere within 10 years. 10/20/2010 6:14:12 PM |

I'm just happy I got a good job in a great location with cool people and it's something I'll like doing. I see your point though. 10/20/2010 6:49:57 PM |
