I am currently making a grilled cheese, and still have half a can's worth of the tomato bisque that I mentioned earlier to warm up.

It's cold and windy out here. I'm crying my eyes out. This is comfort food, people

Went to the store today and now I'm enjoying Cambell's V8 Tomato Herb Soup and eating a sharp cheddar grilled cheese sammich. It's so good and way better than last night's make do meal.

Ok now I would like to try this for the first time.

Is the first time worthy of a grocery store concoction or do I hit up a restaurant?

I'm not a fan of tomato soup, but the grilled cheese dipped in it is excellent

question for yall: mayo or no mayo on the grilled cheese? I say yes to mayo, but the fiance can't stand it...

I think mayo can be good on it but you have to add it after you grill the sanwich, warm/hot mayo is gross

Campbells is probably fine, but I'm sure you can find a gourmet version or something at whole foods or harris teeter. And mayo is good on the sammiches! and for #3, since about august

Mayo is disgusting. NO on grilled cheese.

And most of the canned tomato soups are pretty good. I haven't had a bad one yet. Campbell's condensed tomato soup is the old school stuff that most of us grew up with tho.

well if you don't like mayo to begin with obviously you aren't going to like it on a grilled cheese. That's like saying texas pete on eggs would be awful if you don't like hot stuff- pretty obvious you wouldn't like it.

for those that like mayo on their sammiches, I highly suggest giving it a shot

apparently I'm not the only one:

I thought I had gotten this at a restaurant before too, and it looks like I probably did. It is how I always make mine!

Mayo serves to moisten sandwiches that have mainly dry ingredients...melted cheese is already pretty much a liquid, so no need for may, its just adding fat.

Its like getting a sloppy BJ, then still using KY

that depends on what kind of cheese and bread you are using. I typically don't butter my bread either

yall need to give it a shot (unless you flat out don't like mayo like bb)

If you can somehow deep-fry this tomato soup soaked grilled cheese, you can be the new thing at the Fair next year

i like campbell's condensed because that's what i had when i was a kid and it's what i still love now. i also like to make it with velveeta for the same reason. and cheap bread. i'd rather have that than any of the so-called gourmet stuff you all are going on about!

Exactly. I like it with or without.

Actually, you all should try a grilled cheese with mustard, any kind.

...and, well, if you don't like mustard to begin with obviously you aren't going to like it on a grilled cheese.

never heard of that before- I will have to give it a try

what kind of mustard do you use? a spicy brown? a standard yellow? I could see myself liking a honey mustard on there... and how much do you use? just like what you would put on a club sammich?

I could get down with a spicy brown or a whole grain mustard.

Someone go to the store for me ok?

I like all the different kinds, as they result in different tastes.

Some ideas:
Basic yellow on a basic white bread and american cheese...
Spicy brown on rye with swiss or muenster...
Honey mustard on wheat with cheddar or colby-jack...

Oh, and for page 2:

Quote :
"mushrooms and parsley cooked in butter, with swiss

garlic and onions cooked in extra virgin olive oil, with mozzarella and feta

peppers and onions cooked in butter, with colby-jack

green apples and bacon cooked in bacon fat, with extra sharp cheddar

[fresh figs and mint, with cambozola]

Also, grilled pimento cheese sandwiches... (with optional shrimp or crab meat)"

New favorite: homemade bread, some good sharp cheddar, a seeded tomato slice or two, and a couple strips of bacon. NOM

Though I like the mustard idea proposed here. I might try adding some super coarse dijon.

I've actually liked bacon and tomater on my grilled cheese for a while- it's the homemade bread that makes the combo particularly awesome. You should try it sometime
