Well it's the truth. They both went to Hickory High School (back when it was a good school to go to, and when it was only sophomore through seniors). My mom was a sophomore my dad was a senior. They went to three proms together (his senior, and her junior and senior). Dad went off to App State, but flunked out because he kept going home to visit my mom. So he went to Cadwell Community College for a year, my mom's senior year of high school. Then he went off to State. My mom got an Associate's degree and moved to Raleigh (but not with him). They got married in '83 the same year my dad graduated from State. They moved to Havelock so my dad could work at cherry point...then to newport where they bought their first house so they could have a family...
then I came along.
even after all the shit my dad has put us through my parents are still together.
This is the same way all my grandparents met, and how my dad's brother and my aunt met (but they are getting divorced)
I'm getting ready to head over to their house for dinner, I'll ask how exactly they met, or if it was they had just always known who each other were. I mean it is a small town.

My mom was selling Krispy Kreme donuts in Talley for Sigma Kappa. My dad bought some donuts and asked her out. This happened sometime in 1977 and were married 2 years later.
They have been married for 31 years.

Not long after my mother's first husband died, she was at her mother's sitting in the living room on a foot stool chatting with her family. Her brother worked on muscle cars and came by with my dad in tow in order to show him something that he had been working on. My father saw my mother from behind and was completely star struck. When my mother turned around, the feeling was obviously mutual. Later, he asked my uncle about my mother and the rest is pretty much history. My father was going through a divorce at the time and my mother was grieving the sudden loss of her husband, so they were very lonely and very much needed the other at the time.
My father died in a car accident a few years later and my mother is now on husband #3. 11/2/2010 5:46:27 PM |

My dad met my mom on Virginia Beach. She lived near there, he was stationed at Langley AFB. they got married, went to Iceland and then Okinawa where i was born.
I met my wife at the Five-0. It was on 80's night, i think. we laughed at that weird dude who was always dancing by himself.

My dad was visiting someone (maybe my granddad?) in the hospital with his friends, and they had some bet going. Dad claims he can't remember what the bet was about, but whoever lost had to ask out whatever woman was at the reception desk, whether she was 9 or 99. Needless to say, dad lost, and the woman was my mom. They've been married for 30 years. 11/2/2010 5:59:45 PM |

Let's see, my dad had just been married for 6 months and my mom must have been married almost 16 years, with two kids. Dad moved into the neighborhood with his wife, met mom, then I was born in 1982 (a couple months after they met), my parents were finally able to marry each other more than a year later and my little sister was born 7 months after that.
My grandmother told me I was a love child when I was 6 years old.

I actually don't know how my parents met
as far as my mom and stepdad, his family used to come into the movie store my parents owned (but wait, it's not what you think)... after she and my dad divorced, a friend introduced her to Walt - she recognized him from the movie store 11/2/2010 6:34:21 PM |

Her dog had a bad case of ear mites and one of her friends recommended taking her dog to see the cute new vet at Havelock Animal Hospital. So she ended up taking her dog in and when she met my dad you could say she fell in love at first mite." |

my parents met at a music venue (castaways haha) in greensboro. mom was taking my aunt out for her 18th birthday and they were there to meet two guys (brothers) and my dad happened to be the third. my mom was more interested in my dad than the other guy she was supposed to meet. my dad called her house the next day, asked my Papa for his daughter to which he replied which one and because my dad was so drunk from the night before he actually asked for my aunt (linda, mom's name is dorinda). after talking to her on the phone for a minute or two, he realized he had the wrong sister. after all of that they dated for about 3 years and have been happily married for 33.
wow, actually typing it out that's kind of similar to my boyfriend and mine's story. i was pouring beer for big boss at raleigh wide open last year, his friend came up laying it on thick, and i went for the laid-back one instead. missed contact with each other for a few months and started dating in january
and even though we are broken up, the story with my ex was pretty cool. we were in a car accident together on western as you turn left onto pullen. first snowy/icy day of the year and started seeing each other after that. 11/2/2010 9:02:10 PM |

Set up on a blind date by friends--a good friend of my dad's was going out with my mom's neighbor. 4th of July, 1972. Despite the fact that their houses were less than 5 miles apart they had never met up until that point. Engaged within a year and were married in 1974; they celebrated their 37th anniversary this May. (The other couple are still married after 38...as coincidence would have it my parents are visiting them in Florida this very night)
Has some similarities to the way I met my girlfriend...a good friend of mine invited a girl he was interested in to the beach for a weekend and needed me to come along as wingman since she was bringing a friend. He thought that I might get along with his girl's friend. 3.5 years later it's working out rather well for me...

I think my dad had the hots for my overachieving aunt that went to NCSU. She had just started alpha delta pi there and she didn't want to be seen with some long haired hippie boy.
luckily her ECU drop-out pot smoking sister (my mom) came to visit and found my dad passed out on the porch swing. It was hippie love at first sight. they dated for a while, but my mom wouldn't put out so he dumped her.
in the meantime she got married to some asshole engineer that made her roll the toothpaste just right or he raged or beat her or something. they divorced after 6mo.
two years later they were high in a field at some concert and my father was on a bike. hippe love all over again. then dad went to med school and they got married.
my aunt married a nuclear engeneer who was president of the student body, athlete, and all that jazz.
37 years later my mom continously bitches about her peice of shit children and life and how awful it is, dad doesn't give a shit and just goes to work and tries to ignore her. We all try to ignore her. 11/3/2010 1:45:11 AM |

My parents are from the same area of Iowa. They went to the same school and church. Everyone knows everyone back there. My dad was good friends with my mom's brother. That is how they got hooked up.
The engagement story is the best part. My mom and dad had went to the lake together with all of their friends while they were dating. My dad had lost his new watch and they were crawling around on the cabin floor looking under the beds for it. That is when he asked her to marry him and she said yes, but she thought he was joking. A few days later he brought the topic up again and she said, "Oh you really meant that?" Then she said she would still marry him. After that my dad went to tell his parents about the engagement and they didn't even know he was dating someone. When he said, "Mom I am getting married," my grandmother's response was, "When?" Then he told her that they were thinking about getting married in February of the following year since everyone would be done with the farming. At that point my grandmother said, "Who are you getting married to?" and my dad told her.
She later told my one aunt that she thought my dad would always have his shoes under a woman's bed. 11/3/2010 2:55:08 AM |

My dad's from New Jersey, my mom's from Texas. They met on a trip to Israel in an Ulpan (crash course in Hebrew), their first date was an archaeological trip to Egypt and the bus broke down. They dated for a while, then broke up and decided not to get married on the account of him wanting 6 kids, she wanted 2. A few years (?) later, they both ended up in Michigan, my dad was going for his PhD and mom was going to grad school, and they started dating again.
