If i remember correctly, it's not a whole turkey either. I want to say it is a half. But it was a long time ago when I had one, so I might be wrong or it might have changed.

they advertised it as a 10-13 lb whole fried turkey. $40.

considering i dont want shit to do with cooking a whole fucking turkey since im on my own this year, this seems like a good option, but i just wanted to make sure they werent shitty. dont really have a boston market or other reasonable place to get one from. im sure grocery stores will be doing them, but im only really doing it because turkey + bo seasoning sounds pretty fucking good

I had bojangles for the first time in about 18 months this weekend. It was quite stellar.

Well that is the beauty of a fried turkey. It is pretty damn hard to fuck up, especially for a restaurant like Bojangles that fries everything.

Why would you want a whole turkey if it's just the two of you anyways??

If you want to stay festive, cook a rack of lamb or something.

I want pizza leftovers for the next day or two, not a whole damned month. I get tired of Thanksgiving leftovers after about a week.

I always cook a duck for Thanksgiving. It's the perfect size for the two of us to have a nice dinner and enough leftovers to cover a dinner later in the week.

I get all my turkey leftovers from Thanksgiving with the family.

i can't remember the last time i had turkey for thanksgiving... last year we did a country boil

I am really intrigued with the various styles of Turducken out there too... I just saw one that has sausage and a bunch of spices I really like thrown in there too, which sounds amazing

bojangles is superior to any other fried chicken on the fast food market. i'm sure 85% of that is due to nostalgia and the inability to consume it on the regular in GA.

if my family ends up skipping thanksgiving this year i may seek out of their turkeys. sounds good.

ugh, the kitchen is always disgusting after cooking one turkey, hate to see what the kitchen in bojangles looked like on turkey day

[Edited on December 13, 2010 at 2:46 PM. Reason : i got my 12-lb turkey for less than 8 bucks, too. fuck a 40 dolla turkey]

I think bojangles is way overrated. The steak biscuits make me feel like death, their sausage is wack as fuck, the fried chicken is sub par atbest. On the off chance that they cooked my cajun filet biscuit correctly then I will enjoy that but I'm over that lard ass grease factory

they're cooked, fried and sealed at the processing place. bojangles restaurants just keep them in the freezer and serve as distribution points.

I realize this thread is about Bojangles' fried turkey...which I have not had. Hear me out, maybe I can offer some insight.

I used to live a lot closer to Western but have lived on Hunters Club since the beginning of March 2009. Bojangles has competition from several fast food places, two casual dining restaurants, and a grocery store. Here are the advantages and disadvantages of each:

Fast Food advantages: Non-chicken items on the menus, double drive-thru lanes, free refills on soda (for dine-in customers), possibly more consistent brand identity, have access to a wider variety of movie licensing tie-ins and promotions.

Fast food disadvantages: Typically have 1-3 good menu items that carry the crappy ones, limiting the number of menu choices you can realistically make, lack decent customer service for drive-thru and call-in orders, are sometimes not trustworthy on take-out orders because they know you'll probably leave without even checking the bag (e.g. they'll leave out a side item, won't include condiments) which leads to you or someone in your party going hungry, having too many licensing deals ultimately limits their promotional flexibility.

Casual dining advantages: Sometimes have access to beers and wines, which go hand in hand with menu items (poor example: Amedeo's sells Bud Light as well as French fries), get more parking spots, many cooks ease the ticket time burden for tables with multiple guests, many waiters that are able to answer a broader range of questions about the menu, access to multiple vendors to keep menu prices in check, buffet options that a fast food place can't offer and grocery stores can't match in price or value, and experts of many, many entrées as opposed to one or a few.

Casual dining disadvantages: newer restaurants creating price wars (think renovated That's Amore vs. Sylvia's), limited access to all of the vendors (you won't find McDonald's name brands at the Gourmet Factory and vice versa), can't truly set fish prices because it's based on the market, and tough growth prospects in slower economies (this is true for fast food as well, really).

Grocery store advantages: Typically a good ol' boy setting where the store and the customer know each other for years (this does happen at all levels, but mostly at the grocery level), local folks are right down the street and can be used in emergencies (e.g. no reservation needed), if the grocery shopper buys at double coupons then there are discounts.

Grocery store disadvantages: have to prepare own food, array of commodities, array of promotions, lack of trained staff, etc. etc. etc.

This is what I have noticed in my year and nine months, I am sure there are plenty more that need mentioning. The way I am setting myself apart as a Bojangles customer is this: I go after the chicken filet biscuit combo on Sunday morning before the college kids wake up. The hot biscuits, if I land them, will take care of me while I am hungry but not ready for lunch. The appetite sated off of those allows me to focus free time on smaller chores that get me higher productivity. I season up hot fries, I would like to have 5-10 of these, then get 20-30 to have later. If I lose 1 or 2 fries (friend tax), the 20-30 for later keep me afloat until lunch. I don't really waste time on other sides simply because they basically don't go with breakfast or something really small.

I will say this, if you can't get a combo in the first 3-4 hours (assuming you are up that early), you could be in a world of trouble. If you can get one, it will really make going back for another later a lot more enjoyable and less stressful. It's simply just very exhausting wasting any time waiting in line for anything other than a Tailgate Special in the early morning. You work just as hard on the two-piece snack and see 1/3 to 1/36 of the caloric intake in my situation.

If you have any other questions, you can PM me. I hope this helps in the slightest!

LOL, y'all done bumped yo head. The Western bojangles is just so-so.

As a general rule, the Bojangles awesomeness is correlated to how far east you are.

The west side of the state is the shittiest. Don't know why (it is the HQ city after all), but I haven't found a good Bojangles in Charlotte yet. Its so bad, I went from eating Bojangles at least twice a week back east, to maybe once a month in Charlotte.

The east side of the state (past Raleigh) is where its at. You can be assured you're getting the best by examining the franchise sign. It'll say Tand's Corp on the side. You can taste the butter on top of the biscuits, you nearly never get a flat one, AND they know what you're talking about if you want a "dark" biscuit. (none of these are the case at the western bojangles)

They also solved the problem of treating people who want extra seasoning like felons. SEASONING ON A CHAIN. You can have all you want, and they don't have to worry about the can getting stole.
