One of the best buffalo chicken sandwiches in town during it's prime circa 06. I could have eaten one a day and never gotten sick of it. Loved that place, and it being in walking distance made it even better.

I'd argue that the flautas were some of the most bland things I've ever eaten.

I've heard mixed reviews on the Cuban, never had it, though.

well like i said in the first post of this thread, the food had really gone down hill. Everything started to taste dry and flavorless (even my favorite things) which is why I stopped going there for the occasional lunch. I will still miss karaoke though


i also did use the flauta's as a vehicle to get the sourcream and salsa to my mouth too

Pearl is pretty good for the area, and is just a mile or so away from my house. But I still prefer driving 3 miles to get take out from Beansprout. Or Seaborne Station.

haha, i remember it well. i most certainly was not with either of those groups that night, but i went to high school with stool throwers. iirc, there was a bet, a reneging on said bet, a beer poured on a head, airborne stools, and so on. good old jax.

Considering you could find the similar menu items at other restaurants in the same area as Jax for less, I would say that qualifies as overpriced. Now if their chicken wings were made from baby chickens that were hand fed from birth and lovingly smothered with pillows before being butchered, they should have mentioned that on their menu so I would know I was paying for higher quality meat.

Only ever went there 2 or 3 times, none of which were in the past 4 years. But I was not impressed.

If I'm going to a bar to watch sports in Raleigh it's likely going to be Village Draft House or maybe Tobacco Road. I always liked Sammy's better than Jax of those two, anyway.

Yea - it was on one of the WRAL food rating segments. I don't care if ya'll don't believe me, I ain't eatin that shit. I can handle cockroaches crawling on the chicken pieces, what I can't handle are the eggs they found the cockroaches laid on them. I have a tough time eating at the subway next door after I heard that segment years ago

I happened to know the folks who ran Jax. They were a good family.

Regarding sanitation, the owners were very sanitary. You could eat off the floor in their kitchen. The owner was adamant about fresh food - he hated bars that just defrosted and then fried food. They typically made their food to order, fresh, in a very clean environment.

I can tell you that they were paying above market rent, which made profitability difficult. While they could have marketed the place better to the college crowd, I don't think the food was the issue - service could have been improved, but I think it was a combination of competition, the recession and people spending less that lead to their demise.

Their Jax Rolls, Wings & Enchiladas were second to none in Raleigh. I thought their food was typically priced bar food. I was always a satisfied customer.
