If the taped end of the string is long enough, you can scoot it through just like the safety pin method...

i don't have paperclips here at home. i have no use for them. i don't print at home, don't clip papers. if i have to bind paper somehow, i use a stapler. chris might have one squirreled away in some paperwork for work somewhere

...but i have tons of wire hangers. dry cleaning FTW/L/?

This really isn't that hard. Takes like five minutes. You don't need a hanger or a paperclip or a clothes pin. Feed it through one end. Bunch the fabric and pull the end through til you get to the other side. I have several hoodies I'm had to do this to.
