It’s easy to get caught up in the idea that Ohio State is bigger because of the trips to the BCS, or that Oklahoma is a better job because of its tradition, or that being the manager of the New York Yankees, head coach of the Dallas Cowboys, or head man of the North Carolina basketball team are somehow more prestigious, but a winning head football coach at Notre Dame would own more than just the sports world. He would be a king.

Miami should be in a position to get a big name coach.

looks like their AD is cut from the same cloth as Lee Fowler.

"Al Golden has been offered and accepted the Miami coaching job, a source confirmed on Sunday.

The 41-year-old Golden spent five seasons at Temple, transforming the Owls from a program that was 1-11 in his first season to winning 17 games in his past two seasons at the Philadelphia school.

A source told The Associated Press that the deal is believed to be for at least four years and worth up to $8 million."

I think Golden can be successful at Miami. The Miami job really isn't that hard. He just needs to get a decent number of the local kids, cherrypick good prospects from throughout the country, develop guys once they get there and be a good game day coach. As long as he wins, the great local kids will want to go there.

"Auburn says Gus Malzahn not leaving Tigers

Auburn coach Gene Chizik says offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn has received a raise and contract extension. Monday’s announcement came amid reports that Malzahn had been offered the Vanderbilt head coaching job.

Chizik did not confirm that the coach had been offered—and turned down— the Vanderbilt position. He also did not release details of Malzahn’s new deal.

A person familiar with the situation says Auburn will “more than double” Malzahn’s $500,000 salary. The person spoke with The Associated Press Monday on condition of anonymity because details of the deal were not publicly announced.

Malzahn, who won the Broyles Award as the nation’s top assistant coach, is also Auburn’s quarterbacks coach and works with Heisman Trophy winner Cam Newton.

Interesting that he works with Newton. Typically, the offensive coordinator and quarterback aren't on speaking terms with each other.

He probably did not want to end up like Greg Schiano. Plus Pitt is not a bad job, team still has talent, they just need an actual good coach. Moustache man Wannstedt did a good job bringing in talent, he just could not coach worth a damn. Kind of like Amato.

Wouldn't be shocked to see Danny O'Brien transfer. His family had already talked about it, and now UMd hires a run-first coach.

I dunno, TCU is in a real good position right now. They are going into a shitty Big East conference where they could become the next Miami (in Big East) or FSU (in ACC) type school due to what will essentially be a free ticket to the BCS every year. And, if these spending numbers that came out the other day are right, they're willing to spend SEC money (and more than Texas) on their football program.

[Edited on January 2, 2011 at 2:54 PM. Reason : NVM, Texas wasn't on the list cause they're not in a bowl (25m vs 20m)]

He made $1.6M this year at UConn -- sucks... but knew it was going to happen eventually.

He is a good coach not a great recruiter but a really awesome person too.

Sounds like Edsall is a bad breaker-upper

Quote :
"A freshman who asked not to be identified told the Hartford Courant that Edsall informed some of his players over the phone.

"It really pisses me off because he made [running back] Jordan [Todman] address the team last night to say he was leaving [for the NFL draft]," said the freshman, who also expressed his desire to transfer. "And he isn't man enough to do it face to face to us?

"A lot of people were just really upset by the call. He made Todman get up and tell the whole team: 'Jordan, I think you have something to say to these guys.' He made him do it face-to-face. But he didn't do it face-to-face."

Wide receiver Kashif Moore also told the Courant he was disappointed.

"For being like a leader on this team, I've been here awhile, it's disappointing but at the same time, Coach Edsall has done so much for the program," Moore said. "I love him as a person and what he did for us after Jazz [Howard] was killed. I respect him for that but at the end of the day, and I learned this when I was getting recruited, this is a business. We can't ever forget that.""
