generally you'd go to court and tell the judge there was no property damage or anything and they'll drop it

Yeah, I'd just go see the DA and they'll probably throw it out. If they don't, ask for a continuance and then get a lawyer.

In the meantime, learn to drive.

I also got clocked doing 77 in a 65 in Emporia. Got me with the rear radar while he was driving in front of me in an unmarked car. First time I ever saw / heard of that.

How long ago was that? B/c I-95 through Emporia has been a 70 mph zone for at least 2 years.

I just got 62 in a 45. Wife just used our PFJ for running a stop sign.

So... I may get a lawyer on this one instead of doing my usual 9 over plea.

I had a good 15 seconds of being out of his sight to decide whether or not I should take a quick side-street or stay straight on my route after passing the him. I wasn't even sure if he was going to pull a u-turn and come and get me or not. He did indeed do a long u-turn and I stayed straight and took my punishment. Almost stayed home today too. So much second guessing happens after a ticket!

You get 1 per household (at least as far as insurance is concerned)

I haven't had a ticket in years, but back then I've used multiple PFJ/PJC in the same year or couple years. They never checked and I never heard anything about it. Also got a ticket later after using one and nothing happened and I never heard anything about it when I pleaded it down to 9 over. I don't think they check, too many people.

Spoke to my insurance agent (off record) and it appears that I should just do the 9 over plea and nothing will happen. Sounds good to me.

9 over first offense is no points (i used this twice and still have never had any points, so they seem to also not check this)

Got pulled over by a motorcycle cop for 62 in a 35. It was night and he was right on my ass so I thought he was trying to play fuck fuck games. I was game. Turns out it was a cop. Somehow talked my way out of it.

It was my birthday so that might of played a role. I doubt it though as he didn't really look at my license. Perhaps the USMC sticker helped???

Do you have to show up in person to use PFJ(C)? Got pulled for 36 in a 25 at the beach in January. I'd rather not have to show up for traffic court in Dare County next Wednesday. :-/

*This is of course if I can even use one. You get one every three years, right? Need to see how long since I last used one. I know the only ticket I had after that one got dropped when I lawyered up, but not looking to spend $300+ this time if I don't have to.

Srsly? I've always heard it as 9 over is 2 points and the threshold for raised insurance rate is 3, so your first one doesn't cost you but the second does.

I have no idea really, and it could very well have changed, but when I was a student thats what student legal services told me and I've used it twice and have never had any license or insurance points

9 over is points, just not enough to raise your insurance rate

[Edited on February 14, 2013 at 1:33 PM. Reason : (unless you have other points)]

One 9 over offense is 1 driver's license point and no auto insurance points. Your insurance does not go up. I've gotten more of these than I can remember (though spaced out several years apart). More than one 9 over offense within 3 years will result in an insurance bump.

Got a ticket in Michigan on Monday, right after leaving the airport. The highway goes from a 70mph speed limit to a 55 and there was a cop sitting right at the transition. I'd set the cruise in the rental and was trying to figure out where the shit apple maps was telling me to go when he clocked me.

I normally bring my V1 with me but I was about to miss my flight and didn't take the time to grab it. I was told that Michigan was one of the few non-reporting states but I don't know if that is still accurate.

Pretty lames.

I was just up there in February and everyone I saw drove 90mph on those highways. Even through the 55mph curved areas. That sucks

Regarding insurance points:

Quote :
"NO SDIP POINTS WILL BE CHARGED FOR:

Speeding 10 mph or less over the
posted speed limit; provided all of
the following are true:

-The violation did not occur in a
school zone; and

-There is not another moving
traffic violation for the
experience period (an isolated
Prayer for Judgement Continued
[PJC] will not count as a prior
conviction for the purpose of this
exception).

One PJC for each household every
three years; however:

-A second PJC may cause points
to be charged according to the
underlying convictions."

i average about 3-4 tickets a year usually. i completely stopped caring many years ago and just consider the couple hundred bucks for a lawyer a tax to drive how i please.

i had one of my more amusing ones recently, 82 in a 65 in a 43 foot diesel pusher rv towing a jeep grand cherokee. the trooper was not impressed, lol.

Wow...what's up BBR?

After calling my insurance agent, I found that the "9 over rule" doesn't apply in Virginia. Any speeding ticket, no matter how inconsequential, will fuck up your rates for 2 years. Lawyer up time--anyone know of someone good in Dare County by any chance?

^i'm going with rusty dement i think. so far so good, he's handled one ticket in wake county for me (dropped) and gave me a great recommendation for a lawyer in orange county for the above mentioned 82 in a 65 (reduced to faulty equipment, just had to take online driving school). really sucks crouch is gone, he was my man for like 13 years. he helped me with at least 30-40 tickets, some of them pretty bad like careless/wreckless, eluding, triple digit speeds, etc. top notch results every time, he's definitely the only reason i've kept a license and normal insurance rates. always had the hookup in other counties, too.

^^yes, i've got a guy down there that's served me well a couple of times in the past. i can't remember his name off hand, but i've got it somewhere and i'll pm it to you. how bad is the ticket? i've also found the da's office there to be very nice and if the speed isn't too crazy they'll discuss your case over the phone and offer reduced charges to 9 over or even non moving violations (like most places, especially rural areas, they just want the revenue it seems). this was the case a couple of years ago anyway.

also fyi for everyone, if you have AAA they will help with legal fees for tickets. i never knew this until recently. it depends on what coverage you have as to how much they'll pay.

Came back. I paid $213. The judge didn't find my previous record, which surprised me a bit. They reduced my speed violation from 19 to 9. Therefore, the insurance won't increase.

Fuck, speed camera got me today. Going 107 or 108 in a 100 zone. Even knew the camera is there, as it is a fixed camera, but got distracted for a few seconds by something.

$80

Have paid nearly $2,000 over the past 2.5 years or so.

Slip the tint company a 20 and have them make you a receipt for a little under the legal limit and show it to the DA. Some times it works. Did for me

Ok... so my hubby got a 72 in 50 ticket in wake! he has had another speeding ticket in july 2009 (careless driving) in VA and was hit by someone else in 2012 and hit somebody in 2012 too. So, what can we expect in court? and any recommendations for a lawyer? I do have the Hyatt Legal plan through NCSU.
