You've got no cause of action, and no damages to sue upon, not to mention the immunity they have, which has already been quoted.

Think about your situation realistically: If everyone that was inconvenienced by the USPS (as you have or worse) got it in their head to sue, not only would the Postal Service be shuttered due to debilitating bankruptcy, but the entire court system would be flooded with all sorts of these complaints.

I understand the inconveniences you've gone through thus far, but honestly, you're partially to blame for them. A prudent person would have had the decline happen once, MAYBE twice, and then get on the horn with customer service to see what exactly is happening (the day of the week is irrelevant...most major banks have 24/7 live support). In reading your account, you attempted a charge four times.

I get that you checked your account AND called a rep, but you should have called the 800 number to quickly check the status of your card (debit or credit) before running it, given all the problems you were having.

I'm not trying to troll you, but you should learn to temper the knee-jerk preference of litigation. The best course of action, and the one I'd advise you of if you came into my law office, would be to go back in person to the post office and ask to speak to the supervisor on duty. CALMLY explain the situation, and the inconveniences that have been caused, and see if he can get to the root of the problem.

You likely won't get anything more than a heartfelt apology, but unfortunately, that's life. At the very least, your problem will likely be corrected, and you won't have to go through this again.

Wow this is obviously worth a lawsuit.
...and people wonder why we're such a "litigious society"...

Funniest thing I've read in awhile.

facepalm.

because obviously you have 19 stalkers hanging out near your residence, waiting for you to come home at night so they can steal you DIRTY PAPER MONEY, but they won't take your credit cards. Are you afraid to go to banks too?

sounds more like you think

someone move this to chit chat.

Give the girl a break, god damn. Not everyone knows the "right" way to handle every new situation they are presented with. Give the girl credit for doing some scientific experimentation to see if her card denial was just a glitch, then calling the bank, then following the banks information back towards the source of the problem... For fucks sake, it's not like she cried and sat in her room for four days.

that being said, OP... Call the bank first next time, I'll assume you learned that lesson the hard way.

Lastly, I'd call the third party company delivering your mail and make sure they know at the dispatch level that you are in your apartment or whatever now and that they should deliver mail there.

and then move on.

get a mailbox at a Mailboxes Etc or UPS Store. Not only did I never have issues with mail or packages arriving, but I got to know the three employees (including owner) of that store. It's just nice being recognized and treated well, which I have never experienced with any USPS employee, no matter how nice I try to be to them.

The USPS people at the Westgate office are always real nice to me. Probably helps we've been using them ever since it opened

If you want to keep a paper trail switch all your bank accounts and credit cards to electronic statements. Then when they're emailed to you just print them out.

Problem solved.

I'd try talking to the supervisor or mail person. There may have been some previous incident that caused them to hold the stuff back but if you talk to them it may be easily corrected. Something could of happened with someone else in the past and they play it safe now.. maybe even so they don't get sued.

I, too, had a problem with the USPS:

A few years ago I was moving and trying to sell a lot of stuff on craigslist/ebay/etc, so I decided to get a PO box. I thought it would be easier since I was changing my address and if I got a stable place to get money sent to then nothing would get lost or delayed... ha!

So I fill out the online form, submit a payment, and print out the receipt. The next morning I go to the PO before work to get my offical PO box keys (yay!). But it's not that easy... I walked up to the counter, handed the lady behind the counter the receipt and told her I was here for my PO box keys. She handed it back to me and said "I don't know how to do this." I told her that I did everything online and the receipt even has instructions on it - all she has to do is give me key ####. She responed with "yeah I don't know how to do that online stuff." There was a line of people behind me so I asked if there was anyone here who did know, and she said no but she would call her boss.

ugh.. I just took my last final today and I'm tired of typing. long story a little less long - I eventually got my keys but not a single piece of mail (it ALL got sent back). Then I took action!!!!! Just kidding. I was just like "oh well, that's something I'll never do again." TOFTT.

My friend got hit by a postal truck while riding his bike.

So, I think that you can sue them.

The post office did not cancel your credit cards for you, blame your banks for your debilitating mental anguish. Furthermore, just because shit happens to you does not automatically mean that there is someone out there you can sue, just grow the fuck up and learn from what happened.

I'm about 50/50 with helpful UPS employees.

Some are worthless turds, others are very helpful. At least, that has been my experience.

You kids and your newfangled internet! I opened a PO box at the Post Office back in 2003 or so...in person, at the post office. It was really easy and I never had any problems. I know it's not always more convenient...but it was hassle free.

Don't limit yourself to only credit cards could be a good lesson to learn from this.

Use cash as a secondary source when problems with credit cards arise could be a good lesson to learn from this.

Tipping the mailman and/or becoming friends with your mailman, to your benefit, could be a good lesson.

Not making enemies out of the post office, could be a good lesson.

Let me get this straight:

Out of every person in HER usps delivery area, they aren't perfect for HER mail only and it's on purpose.

If they are doing it ON PURPOSE, I suppose she is allowed to be upset. But I doubt they have a vendetta against her.

She's not wrong for being upset, she's wrong for jumping to the conclusion that a lawsuit will solve all her problems.
