I have friends who have a baby and the father is black and the mother is white. The father has a stereotypical "black" name and he was adamant that his child have a name that did not sound "black" because he feels that his name has hindered him in life. He feels that his name on paper prejudices people against him before they have met him or gotten to know him.

Funny, I talked to one of the foreign exchange girls at school, who had a nearly unpronounceable name and she thought most of the ethnic names were ridiculous and would get tons of shit in Africa, because they don't mean a damned thing.

A woman came in once and signed the name Ladynasty.

Well, my friend wasn't really paying attention, and she read the name off the list as Lady Nasty. Apparently, it is pronounced La-Dynasty. My friend said the woman was not happy.
