I'm in Raleigh, and the moon is just regular right now.
I'm staying up for the total eclipse. The weather dude said clouds will be moving in so we should try to catch it earlier on during the total period. 12/21/2010 1:14:47 AM |

clouds are thicker now. getting a clean shot of the moon between the wisps of clouds is going to be tough. probably not worth it for me to go drive somewhere now. 12/21/2010 2:01:13 AM |

Alright, I'm still seeing a sliver of white.
And it's slightly red. The clouds are obscuring a lot of the redness.
I think it's cool, but I gotta decide whether or not to wake my friend up for it. I said I'd stay up to see if it was worth it...now I can't tell. 12/21/2010 2:41:12 AM |

there was supposed to be a really small meteor shower tonight too, actually.
I saw the one that happened about 1.5 weeks ago, during finals. We left the library at 3am and drove to Jordan Lake, best one of the year supposedly. 12/21/2010 3:06:24 AM |

wow specter...those blow mine out of the water... i used a 55-200mm and just set it to manual with a 15 second exposure...
i don't know much about settings, though 12/21/2010 3:40:56 AM |

thanks, i could've done better with a longer lens and perhaps more megapixels. those were shot at f/4 in manual, 5-10 sec.
here's one more:

That last one is the best with the red and the blue in the upper right portion. Unfortunately we got screwed over by clouds. I saw it for about 4 seconds. 12/21/2010 3:59:02 AM |

Best shot we got. But our digital camera isn't anything special, there were clouds off and on, and this is a facebook upload. Nevertheless I'm pleased with how it came out, because getting a pic at all meant that I was able to see it, which wasn't guaranteed with how cloudy it was.

^^well didn't they base their calendar on the moon cycles? I could be completely wrong, but some sort of "coincidence" like that doesn't seem very coincidental 12/21/2010 9:38:28 AM |

Yeah, and according to some Mayan tour guide in Mexico, the "December 21, 2012" thing is the time at which we'll be at the center of the galaxy (or something), not the end of the world. Basically you could go back to the first Mayan calendar at that point and be set. 12/21/2010 9:41:09 AM |
Biofreak70 All American 33197 Posts user info edit post |
so it is pretty much a reset of the calendar this time next year... nick cage is not going to be happy with that... 12/21/2010 9:43:30 AM |
