I've also preloaded this on Steam, I played the Beta and I can say for sure this is going to be one of the best single player games in years, maybe a decade.

I might need a video card for this. I'm still rockin the gts250. it worked ok in the demo build but there were certainly some issues. this game being built for ps3 first (2006 hardware) makes me feel a little better though

the game is not as demanding as Steam makes it out to be. DX11 is only used on characters walking around. It's not a great game graphically, it's the quality of game play that hasn't been seen in years. I spent over 20 hrs in the first city playing the Beta.

a GTS 250 is a 8800 GTS 512 and a 9800GTX+, the only difference is a die shrink and newer memory chip revisions. So yea your card is aged, but you can find a used 460 for less than $140. I played it on a Q9550 + GTX 480 + 8Gb OCZ Reaper and I could max it out in game and in the NVIDIA CP, game never lagged once. I would just play it first before upgrading.

I have played 20 hrs into this game and there is no way it will disappoint, unless you don't like thinking for yourself and love linear game play

if you preorder the augmented edition you get it free on steam. it's something like $5 on steam so you break even if you get AE

If i had more money to spare, I'd just buy a new video card from newegg (one of the ones that gives a free code for DX:HR) I'm not really looking to spend money on the first one. I bought it years ago, beat it a bunch of times, just looking for a refreshed play through one time to convince myself to buy this new one.

is this game a primarily PC/XBOX game that is just receiving a port to PS3? there hasn't been much discussion on the PS3 boards about it.

can PS3 users even get online?

As far as I know it was developed for consoles and a secondary studio helped with a PC specific version.

the game was designed on the PS3 first and the world premier demo at PAX east this year was on a PS3. another studio was brought in to polish it for PC and they succeeded in making it better than the console version imo

Deus Ex: HR is Single Player only, why do you need to get online?

wow it's gotten almost all 9s from the reviews so far but none of the ones I actually trust (gamespot, ign, gametrailers have done it yet), still though I am surprised

Someone on the internet that a swedish magazine has refused to review it because of some sort of stipulation placed on pre-release reviews

Still based on the preview build I can see why it's getting mostly 9s so far.

Eurogamer typically has the most trustworthy and unbiased reviews imo (i.e. not bought off by developers) and they gave it a 9.

like I said PC Gamer gave it a 94/100

PC Gamer is easily a legit review source for PC games.

My dilemma is the game launches at 3:30AM EST and I've already played 20hrs into the Beta version. Unless I can't sleep, I think I'll just wait until tomorrow to play it. I doubt they changed very much, probably mainly bugs; I know the game did not like GPU OCing.

getting a free copy. AMD has tons of coupon codes if you order a qualifying amd cpu or gpu; convinced a friend to pay me to build him a new pc now.

Although, I kinda want to get that 6870 gpu just for the free shogun2, dirt3 and Deus Ex again.

like I've said I have played the Beta and the game is pure awesomeness. It is one of the few SP games that you can play 4 or 5 times because every mission has at least 3 ways to accomplish it. If you like Deus Ex 1 you will love this game (assuming your computer can handle the game). I have all Deus Ex games and built my first computer around the first game; I can say for sure this is my favorite Deus Ex even though I only went to two of the cities. I spent a total of 20 hours just in the first city and there are many cities to explore and people to kill or sneak around.

Requirements:

Minimum:

DirectX®: DirectX 9.0c
Hard Drive: 8.5 GB

Recommended:
OS: Windows 7
Processor: AMD Phenom II X4 or Intel Core 2 Quad or better
Memory: 2 GB
Graphics: AMD Radeon HD 5850

I loved that they added FXAA High, that is the newest version of FXAA from NVIDIA. Review sites are praising FXAA all over the Internet.

OK, once you are able to unlock augmentations the game feels a lot better, not that it felt bad in the first place, but it opens up the gameplay which is a good thing obviously. As of right now exploration is kinda non-existent, and there is not much to search for (so far), at least right now for me, basically it sorta linear but not totally. What I do love is that you can do a mixture of stealth and action, you are not confined to which one you may start off with in a particular area. As of right now I can safely say its a good game, but how good I still can't say as of yet.

so is this a console game ported to the PC or the other way around

i'm tired of crappy PC games that seem shitty compared to the Xbox/PS3 versions

You still in the first mission after getting your augmentations? Once you finish that it opens up some and you can explore the city.

Console developed by Eidos Montreal. PC developed by Nixxes in conjunction with Eidos. If it means anything, the PC version is what Square is sending to reviewers. It's technically a "port" but Eidos has been clear that they worked diligently to make the PC version shine.

I can't believe how well the game is running straight out of the box; that is something you don't find in many PC Games these days, which is sad.

The game is great, but I'm replaying what I did in Beta until I get to the 2nd city. Don't just run off from the first city, there is a shit ton of side quests and I'm talking at least 10-15. You just have to talk to the right person on the street, one of the big ones is where the hookers hang out.

From Beta to RC, I can see polish they added like FXAA and more story. I expect to get at least 30 hours out of one play through, if I got 20 hrs in the first city during beta. I do take my time and look around for stuff though, some people just fly through doing only the main missions.

To the question about this being a shitty port; I think it is pretty obvious by the quality of review scores from reputable sites all over the globe that this is a great PC game. FXAA allows you to use even more eye candy or bump to your native res vs normal AA, so that is good.

The best first aug is to get the 2nd difficulty Hacker ability, then when you go back to the main office building you can break into most offices.

sounds like the AI is the only major complaint, but I don't think the original was really about highly tactical gun battles either

there is nothing wrong with the AI in this game. Play the game at the hardest setting and I guarantee you are going to die a lot, unless you are extremely stealthy.

AI is good at flanking and using a group to surround, you don't see that in every game. They even give each other cover fire; I'm not sure what you see wrong with the AI but it is way above avg.

Good game, but AI is dumb as a brick.

I'm in a small closet, open door, they saw me run in, i killed a guy in the doorway, but somehow they can't find me? how about look in the closet...
