you are like any other business. you want to make it harder for other businesses to compete with you. given the opportunity, you would do the same thing to someone else

It's harder for PF CHANGS/CHEESECAKE FACTORY to pay $7.25 to their employees than it is for me to pay $7.25 to my employees?

Explain please.

And where exactly is that line drawn between the PF Chang's/Cheescake Factories and your local pizza shop?

It just means you need to hire an appropriate number of servers for the amount of customers you have. If you have five servers and two customers you're doing it wrong. If one server is breaking the bank maybe you need to work on your marketing strategy.

Since you can't afford to come out and try a pizza, it costs more than you can afford.

one difference between you and a better restaurant is that they know how to schedule, and probably send people home if they have too many

well, to be fair, I can't see the point in paying 2 tanks of gas to get a pizza, so yeah... do you deliver to Augusta, GA?

^ that and their food doesn't suck

I fail to see why you try "to be fair" if to be fair is to try the pizza before claiming it sucks.

I'm going to give you an excersise that even a 1st grader could understand:

1. Get a piece of graph paper and draw two sets of axes
2. On the first draw a straight line where y= 7.25 across the graph
3. On the second draw a curvy line that fluctuates from y=2.13 to y=7.25 across the graph
4. Count the squares.
5. See which one has the most squares.
6. Think about your answer
7. ...
8. doh!

The problem is

IF CCF pays $2.13 an hour to their servers because their employees are being tipped 10 - 20% of the bill and making minimum

at what point will CCF have to pay more than $2.13 an hour on labor for servers? Will they begin to pay more on labor when they are doing better in business or doing WORSE?

they will pay more when you require them to pay the full minimum wage to "help" them

essentially you are contending that putting an additional financial burden on established restaurants helps starting restaurants even if starting restaurants now have a possibly higher labor cost. everyone else here understands how retarded that is except you.

Because they're better at making money than you are.

You get your shit right, you get a discount. Capitalism at work.

Sure it is.

You make a ton of money and buy two Benzes instead of one, you get them both cheaper.

You make enough money for your servers to not need wage subsidy, you don't have to pay it.

Et cetera.

Then why should you, as a customer, have to pay their wages?

The business purchases their work because they are doing work for the business.

Example: Zero customers, staff does zero work, staff gets $7.25 from business.

that may be how your business works, but who do you think pays the business? that's right, the customer. as such, the customer is paying for the work of the server

You don't have to tip even though you "purchase" their work.

You do have to pay the bill.

If nobody ever tipped, the bill would have to cover their labor.

This negates your theory.

yes, but only blacks and jews don't tip. The point of a tip is to reward the server for doin a not-shitty job. Again, the customer pays the server for their work

Why not let a successful business pay $7.25 like everyone else and still reward a server for an excellent job?

Right now small business is paying $7.25 an hour.
Big business is paying $2.13 an hour.

Would you rather small and big business both pay $2.13 an hour?
Or would you rather small and big business both pay $7.25 an hour?
Or would you rather keep it like it is?

Skack, the internet is over saturated with advertisement.
So much so that I have installed ad-block.
I don't see (free) advertisements anymore. The only ones I really see are the expensive yahoo ads before watching video news.
While free internet advertising is not 100% worthless, it's 99.9% worthless and not worth my time.
I do have my own website, but again, I pay a couple hundred bucks for the space and domain.

^^ I understand, but the internet isn't the only marketing medium out there. I'm not pretending to be the expert, but it seems like simple techniques such as slapping coupons on cars could be done very cheaply.
Good luck with whatever you choose to do.

1) a small business only pays $7.25 if it overstaffs
2) you completely ignored my question, i think because maybe you realized the answer

If your servers can't make $5.12 an hour in tips then there is something wrong with your restaurant business model.

^^ the only way a restaurant owner would need to pay the full federal minimum is if the waitstaff wasn't making at least $5.12 an hour in tips. I have yet to either work in a restaurant or meet someone working in a restaurant where this was the case. Now if you decide to pay a higher base wage to your waitstaff, that makes you a nice boss in that way.
