I'm not disputing the #s. I'm saying that they're surprising, and completely out of line with the overwhelming majority of people I know (hence, my curiosity regarding what the stats would be if you narrowed the demographic down as I mentioned).

that's a ridiculous notion. it absolutely is a field in which you tailor the demographics of the data you collect for what you're interested in finding out, and what I said I would interested in seeing is more specific than what those statistics show.

of course, but if you are interested in the data set for "under 40 years old; possessing at least a bachelor's degree", you don't include the data for a baby-boomer who went to work at the local factory right out of highschool and got married shortly thereafter.

Given that the number of sexual partners average was so skewed as compared to the less sensitive median, I wonder if the average number of first kisses is inordinately higher or lower than the median. I think the median number would be a more realistic way of understanding what the normal is.

And knowing how larger the range is and how much of it falls in the 2nd & 3rd quartiles would be helpful too. Normal could be very centered around one number, or normal could be great spread out.

28 alone is a pretty useless number. Even the median without additional info isn't helpful, because what if the median is around 50 because most people either have 2 kisses or 100 kisses and very little in between.

you tailor it AFTER you collect it. especially in studies like this.
