That's why it's hilarious that they don't oppose atheist marriages, yet they do oppose gay ones.

I don't see what the big deal is. The owners (so not the company) give money to causes they support personally, one store catered a religious seminar in Pennsylvania (they still have to eat, evil or not), they distributed some religious material that had nothing to do with gay people but it happened to be printed by an anti-gay organization, and some Muslim dude got fired and tried to blame it on his religion.

That's all the facts I see in that article.

I'm not sure if it's new company policy or just the local chik-fil-a policy, but they always say "can I refresh your drink" instead of refill. No staff, ever, says refill in that place.

Because dropping $20 in the hat if your local church is exactly the same as donating millions to anti-gay PACs

Granted that's not what we're talking about here either. Donating lunch to a seminar /= donating millions to an anti-gay PAC. That honor belongs to Home Depot

Your inability to understand that this was the point of the whole article is astounding.

The owners get their money from the business, so by buying from the business you enable them. If their chik-fil-a support of an anti gay establishment was not coincidental, then you indirectly supported an anti-gay rally.

The whole point of the article is about an issue that we may be having to face soon, and that is weighing our capitalism with out belief system in cases where big business takes sides, because we provide them with their speaking power when we frequent their business. We all know money talks, so every dollar we spend gives them an even louder voice. That's the issue here.

This is far from the worst thing that Chik-Fil-A has done. Nothing to get excited about by itself.

I try not to eat at Chik-Fil-A because of its owners' support for Focus on the Family, and because they've used their business as a means of distributiong FOTF material. Ever since McDs came out with the Southern-Style Chicken sandwich, there is nothing at Chik-Fil-a that I can't get somewhere else. I can be a politically-conscious consumer without making any sacrifices.

That's not to say I think Chik-Fil-A is doing anything that should be illegal. Like someone else said, its a private company. They should be allowed to do things like this, as long as they aren't actually discriminating against anyone in the workplace. Luckily for Chik-Fil-A, most Americans don't give a shit where they spend their money.

So if you eat at Chik-Fil-A you're anti-gay, if you choose not to eat there you're gay. Got it.

^I didn't realize there was any reason but this gay shit?

Yeah, but how many people are going to do full scale, intensive research before they buy that $1 4 piece nuggets? Sure there gets a point where it's common knowledge, but I'll just say what I said in the other thread:

1) The number of people that decide to boycott over their position on this issue would probably be equal to the number of people that decide to make a special trip to go to Chick-Fil-A because of their position on this issue.
2) Most people would never know their position.
3) The people that saw this news blurb will forget in a week.

Guess I'll add a 4th.
4) Most people don't care.

Just about as good, IMHO. But more expensive and a little smaller.

I don't really give a good goddamn about it all, if you really want to know the truth (and I'm sure most of you don't really give a good goddamn about me giving a good goddamn).

People get up in arms over the dumbest shit. Both sides.

^Not that I'm supporting the other guy there, but corporate boycotts have never really panned out well. The sentiment is still there, you're right about that, but when it's on the national/international scale it's just really not going to do much of anything.

then realize that some amount of the money you spend goes to supporting social conservatives who work to legislate their biblical interpretations of morality onto the legal and social fabric of our country

which is no different, really, than many other publicly-traded corporations, except that the public companies hide it whereas Chick Fil A is open and up front about it.

According to the BEEEBLAY, jesus specifically states that the old testament is NOT to be disregarded. So, while he never directly stated that stonings should take place to my knowledge, he sure as hell didn't disown those practices either. Hell, the new testament didn't even fucking exist at the time he supposedly existed. Also, if you want to throw out that part of the old testament then I don't want to hear a damned thing about "10 commandments" or any other old testament bullshit. Why is the OT even included in the BEEBLAY if it is simply to be disregarded? That seems very stupid, although admittedly the entire belief system is very stupid.

Also, where are these anti-homosexuality claims coming from, out of curiosity?

maybe you misunderstood my point. the owners(and their kids and kids kids) of chickfila will always be "enabled" to give to whomever they choose.

even if people boycotted them to the point that they had to shut the doors. what good would it do? none.
