Call me haughty and presumptuous all you want, but I'm pretty sure my dog can't do this

in the wild.

So I'm going to have to say that yes, he does in fact have a better life with me than he would in the great wide somewhere. Why? Because there's no cheese sticks, tennis balls, or fluffy couches out there.

And as for snakes, I'm almost certain mine would die in the wild seeing as a) I don't live in a tropical area, and b) he has been captive all his life and is a giant puss most of the time - therefore I don't have great confidence in his ability to go seek out food rather than stay in a ball in a random, dark place.

I must say that I admire people who take care of their pets properly, give them affection, and give them space to run/swim/fly/crawl. There is no denying that's a great act.

At the same time, as I said, I don't agree with the overall concept. And I hate the filth and odors in their houses (not all are like that, but many are), and the hair and saliva everywhere.

P.S. I never said that pets as they are today should suddenly be released into the wild. No doubt they are better where they are now than in the wild. As I pointed out, their wild instincts and nature have been wiped out.

Considering most of the dust in a house is made up of our dead skin cells, I'm not going to hate on my dog for shedding some of his hair.

PS - I guess to each his own because I don't agree with the general concept of using zucchinis in a chocolate cake.

my house does not stink

but my dogs and cat never come inside

(note: my mom loves cats, has up to 3 at a time, after growning up with the "litter box" smell, i will always be HELL NO to indoor animals)

some people are defending their dogs, and they are kind of missing the point. some dogs do not stink, some breeds don't have the terrible dog BO smell that gets into the carpets.

cats however always make your house stink. you might think that the fancy cat litter and covered box makes a difference... but it doesnt.

My cats don't make my parents house stink. I don't live at their house, so I don't get used to the smell. I go over there about once a week...no smell.

But that also has to do with the fact that we don't have a litter box and the cats stay outside most of the time.

Hey, if you never set foot in my house, that's fine. I fucking hate people coming into my sanctuary.

Yeah, I got a dog and two cats; best company ever.

And if I decide I want to lay pipe, then it's off to the layee's house...or a hotel room if I'm desperate.

QFT

I have a cat and a dog. When I moved in to my house there was already a room that had some kind of stink to it (not a pet related smell). I tried steam cleaning the carpet, air fresheners, etc. but it always stank so I just threw the litter box in there. My cat uses it like twice a week since she's outside most of the day while I'm at work, but even if she does use it a lot the stink of the room already covers up any smell that she creates.

I for one love smelly animals. Its so primal and real, fuck ya'll and your hospital smelling houses. Dirty kids have more fun and clean kids get sick and die.

Both my wife and I grew up with cats and dogs in the house. We still like cats and dogs as well, but since we've been married we have realized how much cleaner and easier it is to have a house that isn't covered with cat/dog hair. We also notice the smell in our parents' houses when we go visit that we never remember noticing while growing up.
So we're in the same boat with the people who like cats and dogs, but will probably never own one again.

i must have hit the cat lottery because hair is not a problem. i'm also a neat freak and vacuum my house very regularly (doesn't everyone?....) and i use the attachments to vacuum couch & chair cushions & baseboards but i'd do that without a cat

the only time i get hair on my clothes is when i pick her up or let her sit on my lap. which i'm not really inclined to do when i'm leaving for work in the morning.

also i find it bizarre when people who have known me for years are ALWAYS surprised that i still have my cat. i move a lot and i guess people think i would just throw my cat away because it's too much trouble. or they forget that cats can live for a long time. she's only 9 years old... YES i still have her. sometimes i fuck with people and when they say "you still have that cat?" i say "NAH, i threw her away, didn't feel like making the move with her"...idiots

every single person who owns a kid

has a house that smells terrible. they may not notice it anymore as the owner, but they always stink. it's the same with some breeds of large kids, obese ? for example. even if the owner doesn't notice, the smell is there and doesn't go away.

and no, i don't want your kid to put its butt in my face. yes, i do mind when it climbs on me. no, i don't want to see a picture of it sleeping on your laptop. don't invite me to another dinner party until you get rid of your stupid kid.

I don't like the smell/hair that comes with pets either. Those are the main reasons I haven't gotten a dog since I moved into my new house.

But I'll eventually get one. I love dogs too much. And dogs are worth the mess/hassle you have to put up with. Cats are not. That's why I won't ever get a cat.

^im actually not sure.

cody said he doesnt think so, which poses a problem for us (we have a huge back deck that has stairs leading out to the backyard. we also have a doggie door that the cats/dogs use so they can do their thing)

I'd say don't put the litterbox in the bathroom, but really there's no GOOD place for a litter box. If you can't train an animal to do its business in the toilet, then it needs to do it outside. If your lazy ass can't take it outside, you don't need to own an animal.

Chair ruined by cats? Your guests will never notice if you throw an ugly old blanket over it and wash it once every eight months!

Skack: I trained my dog to listen while off leash... he's never really been big on chasing small animals either, even before training. The only thing he would want in the wild are sticks, and I go out of my way to find big ones for him, so he's happy.

my cats are awesome, but yea they don't have any self control, they cat-ify everything they are allowed to touch unsupervised, just limit their night time room availability to linoleum and you're good.

I would rather have a cat. If you leave them outside they will kill all of the mice and moles. Then you are less likely to sink into the ground when you step on your lawn. Not only do they do yard work, but you don't have to pick up after them because they dig a hole in the woods when they gotta go. I also like how they aren't as loud. My sister has a mini yorkie that won't quit barking when people are around. My friend in high school had a small dog that did this too. I have nothing against dogs, but cats seem to cause less problems and are easier to take care of.
