It's a really small league, only about 8 two man teams and myself and this other guy are the two best bowlers in the league avg ~210....

And he always just seems to show up to bowl whenever he is bowling against my team....

our season wasn't as great as it could have been. we could have easily placed in the top three but with my being out with a broken big toe for 5 weeks didn't help anything. ended up in about fifth. can't wait for the summer. I'll probably try to bowl two leagues this time around if I can get the teams together

sucks that our league discounts expire 4/28 and then league starts 5/12 and we don't get new tags until two weeks after! a whole month of $5 games or coupons if we're lucky

i had to carry bill that last game! he couldnt shoot his avg all night. i finally put it together for that last game and we sure needed it. darrell struggled first two games and put up a decent number the last game too

new league started this week. I prebowled so I won't know how we did til next week.

went bowling tonight for the first time on a weekend in forever. now I remember why I try to avoid it. it was expensive and having no light totally threw my game off. to top it off there were kids on either side of us running into me during approaches, standing around in pairs, etc.

went to the alley tonight. the guys there are super cool. dude let us play an extra 20 or so minutes after closing to finish our game (which was awesome cause I was having a great run)

I like the Alley as a bar and the people up there but even with my plastic ball the hook breaks 3 feet or so before the rack and I gutter every time. This may have changed with new ownership but it used to be terribly dry every time I went. don't think I've ever broken 100 there and at Pleasant Valley I average over 160 in league and break 200 frequently

damn that's sad. My parents read that article and told me about it a few days ago. fuck Sparians though, they charge like $13 to start and $8 a game after that at their cheapest, weekends are by the hour to the tune of $60 or so. One of my teammates swears that the lanes are narrower but that's unconfirmed.

I bowl at PV and really enjoy it. I hate South Hills because I feel like their lanes are so dry it isn't even worth it half the time. PV has $5 bowling from 10-12 on most weeknights and with my league discounts its only $1.59 a game anyway. My team is doing a lot better this season (I had that broken toe last season that fucked us over) and we just swept the team we played last night and they were really good. Bowled a 178, 183, 196 and I was really happy with that I have the second highest average in our league. (highest is 215 dude needs to move up to high rollers)

I am fairly positive the lanes at Sparians are NOT regulation. I thought they were shorter, though, not skinnier.

yeah not sure why that is. the gutters tend to pop the ball out a lot too. I use my old ball for anything but a strike shot. where do you bowl instead?

I live in North Raleigh but bowled in a league with my dad and brother at South Hills last year.

second place by 6 points in our league so far. the team that's in first has a ringer that has like a 230 average (next highest in our league is like 160-something) haha he bowled a 280 last time. We beat his team 3 of 4 points but his team has only dropped those three to us and one to one other team, but we play them in the last game again at least we're in a position to win money this time around.

btw our leage is the "not so good league" haha this dude should be in high rollers for sure but him and his team won the league last season too.

PV should have replaced their gutters and stuff when they redid the floors. I still have to get my balls repaired from that place. I doubt I'll bowl there again.

It's probably the returns that's eating up balls there the most. It's still worth mentioning that the gutters suck cause I know I've seen plenty of balls pop back out of them.

^Got a new ball this season and it's got deep dings all over it. I only throw it for strikes and it has only see a gutter a few times. I agree it's the ball returns.

Haven't updated this thread much but my team is in 2nd out of 12 with by a comfortable margin. We're 3 points out of first place (were tied at one point) but they have a guy on their team that averages 245. dude should be on the tour or at least in the high roller league. We are in the "Not That Good" league where the next highest average is probably me with a 170. This guy comes close to a perfect game every series and usually gathers a crowd by the end.

Some people on my team want to take a break next season because of the costs... I don't know if I'll show up as a random and get put on a team or just practice til winter.

i have come to like the conditions at pleasant valley. i think my game is actually better suited for lanes drier than those but i think it is good for me to stay out there. the second half of our season my avg was probably around 180-185

i still have some learning to do, but mostly i have to get my own head out of my ass and just bowl. need to turn my nerves of jello to nerves of steel and then i will be much improved

I started bowling two weeks ago for the first time in many years--average so far is hovering over 130, though I'm getting noticeably better / back into it every time I go.

I also learned that my stupid, youth-ingrained bowling style is called a "backup".
