I know its "wrong" and would never happen but its logical. much rather rest the starters this week and take a fresh team into games against BC and UNC than to bust ass and have to play Duke. Its one of those weird situations where getting the lower seed is CLEARLY a better situation than the higher seed.

For Page 2

Because there is a sizable gap between the current 7 and 8 spots, it's basically impossible for anyone above to fall below, or anyone below to get pushed up above that 7/8 mark. Here's how I see it:

Win out: 8th seed
Win at Virginia, Lose to Florida State: 8th seed
Lose at Virginia, Win against Florida State: 9th seed
Lose out: 10th seed (if Miami beats GTech at GTech), or 9th seed (if they lose)

Those all assume that Maryland, who plays both Virginia (Home) and Miami (Away), wins those games.

So assuming that we do something other than lose out, we'll be playing noon games on Thursday and Friday versus Miami/Virginia, and then on to Duke. If we do lose out, we'll probably play 7pm games against BC on Thursday, and UNC on Friday.

Then you purposely lose your last 2 games and bank on getting past BC? You want to build up as much momentum as possible going into the tournament. We are still likely playing for NIT seeding (another couple of games at Reynolds would be insane!) 3 losses to end the season and you can kiss that goodbye.
Furthermore, I honestly don't think Duke is that much worse of a matchup than UNC. Defensively UNC has the ability to rape our players in the post and somehow never have their post players foul out. Duke has the ability to rape our perimeter players and never foul out.
Offensively, Duke shoots poorly from the perimeter and they are can be beaten easily. UNC has such a huge height advantage in the post that they can score and rebound over us making it very difficult for them to be shut down.

I'd rather play UNC. Our perimeter defense is too weak for Duke. Our matchup against UNC bigs can be fixed by hitting more cutters on the weak side and just kicking out to the open shooter. They are weak on the perimeter, too.

Duke has a strong D everywhere.

^^ Duke is very vulnerable inside if our bigs make quick decisions before the double team can get there. We are a team that is oriented around our post offense. UNC can neutralize our bigs without even doubling allowing all of their guards to stay at home.

^Oh no a typo When duke isn't shooting well they are very beatable especially against a team that is fairly proficient at scoring inside.

there ya go...
now my 2 cents though is that i want no part of duke and think we have a better shot against unc

duke is too well coached and hopefully kendall marshall is burning himself out

I honestly think it is almost a wash. I think you could make a pretty convincing argument either way. If we make it to the finals we will most likely have to play both of them

Only chance we have against UNC is if Zeller or Henson get injured. We just can't match up with their front line.

isnt UNC tied with Dook now atop the ACC? if UNC beats em this week, they would lock up the #1 seed, correct?

*seems like this is the most likely scenario in which we would play UNC in the 2nd rd if we won.

I'd like to get another crack at UNC. Would you rather Lowe lose his job against Duke or Carolina? State played UNC way better and I'm sure CJ and Harrow want to stick it to Henson.

Duke hasn't shot well in basically 3 games this season, which were their 3 losses.

3 losses / 29 total games = 10%

So we have a 10% chance of catching Duke on a poor shooting night.

^UNC has lost one game since naming Marshall as the starter
1 loss/ 11 games= 9%
So we have a 9% chance of beating UNC with Marshall starting.

In all seriousness I honestly don't think it matters. We would have to get very lucky to win either game and would most likely have to win both to achieve anything in the tournament.

School.................Conf...Overall
1. Duke................12-2...26-3
2. North Carolina....12-2...22-6
3. Florida State.....10-4....20-8
4. Virginia Tech......9-6....19-9
5. Clemson............8-6....19-9
6. Boston College....8-7....18-11
7. Maryland...........7-7....18-11
8. Virginia..............6-9....15-14
9. Miami................5-9....17-12
10. NC State.........5-10...15-14
11. Georgia Tech....3-11...11-17
12. Wake Forest.....1-13....8-21

so now we're looking at a #10 seed, possible #9 depending on how Miami does. They have a home game tonight vs. Maryland and an away game Saturday at Ga. Tech. The only ways we'd jump them in the seedings is 1) if we both lose out, or 2) if we both win 1 more game.

It doesn't really matter which school (Duke or UNC) we would face in the 2nd round because realistically, we'd probably have to play both of them at some point to end up winning the tournament. The question is: which one would you rather face first?

Seeing that Duke pretty much owns the ACC tourney, I'd rather play UNC especially now that Bullock is out for the season. Yeah Henson and Zeller own our asses, but maybe with Vandy playing better we could take advantage of his size and force UNC to beat us from the outside.

Either way IF we make it past Thursday, we'll probably lose by 25 on Friday. Playing Maryland on Thursday will make me Gotta root against Miami this week.

Now that Miami just somehow blew Maryland away today, the only way we finish anything other than 10th is if we beat FSU and Miami loses to Georgia Tech.

We'll now face either Clemson, BC, Maryland, or Miami, depending on how their last games go. If we win that (and that's a big after the VA game), we'll obviously go on to face Carolina.

The good news is that our game will be at night and I can go. The bad news is that I really don't feel like spending the money to drive out there/park/scalp a ticket to a game that we are nearly certain to lose. Not to mention, our whole session sucks. I really don't care to see GT play the 6th seed after us.

carolina forever has sideline seats.

last year was the first time in forever, if felt like, that state had sideline seats

[Edited on March 2, 2011 at 11:53 PM. Reason : also: how do they determine the locations?]

also, great idea to put GT and BC on the side the cameras will be looking at.

i know they changed the ticket allotment policy from previous years to help put people in seats...teams like BC, FSU, Miami etc get less tickets per school than previously...Before, each school got an equal amount, but we all know that there is a higher demand for tobacco rd schools.

This is why the Big 4 schools have more sections this year, and schools could also request additional tickets from unsold ticket books from other schools. Ticket books have also been more accessible to the public early on...you could snag some books from the Wolfpack Club pretty early and I dont think you even have to be a member this year to get em.

Here's what I'm predicting:

1. Duke
2. UNC
3. FSU
4. Clemson
5. BC
6. VT
7. Maryland
8. Miami
9. UVA
10. NCSU
11. GT
12. Wake

Meaning that we would need to:
Beat Maryland on Thursday @ 7:00PM
Beat UNC on Friday @ 7:00PM
Beat FSU on Saturday @ 3:00PM
Beat Duke on Sunday @ 1:00PM

Not looking too good but if we play UNC again, we'll have a full team (missed Harrow for game 1, missed Howell for game 2).

How do you figure? The season is not over; nothing is set in stone yet.

We're capable of beating FSU at home.
Miami is capable of losing to Georgia Tech anybody.
UNC has homecourt advantage vs. Duke this weekend.

A lot can still happen. This is the ACC, after all.

Seeds as of 9:00 AM

1. UNC (Locked)
2. Duke (Locked)
3. FSU (Locked)
4. Clemson (Locked)
5. BC or VT
6. BC or VT
7. Maryland or Miami
8. Maryland or Virginia
9. Virginia, NC State or Miami
10. NC State or Miami
11. GT (Locked)
12. Wake Forest (Locked)

If we end up the 9 seed (Need GT over Miami and to beat FSU), we'll play Virginia.
If we end up 10 seed, we'll either play Maryland or Miami.

What's better for us in the first round? A fairly hot Miami team, or a struggling Maryland team?

Personally, I'd rather play against Maryland. Sadly, the only way that happens is it Georgia Tech beats Miami at home today.

We want to play Miami. We don't want to go against a Maryland team coached by Williams who needs wins in the ACC tourny for their resume.

^ Love Javi's optimism. A sign that hopefully the team at least won't be mailing it in.

Sid's gonna pull out all the stops and win the ACCT. We'll be in the play-in game for the NCAA tourney, and then we go all the way and win it all. We've got an 11-game winning streak coming up!

Once Maryland drops us to 15-16, we will be mercifully shut out of the postseason and Lowe won't be able to continue to inflict shitty basketball on us all.

^ You can still make the CBI with a losing record (assuming the CBI still exists).

Why in the world anyone, especially Javi, would think we have any chance of winning the ACC tourney is beyond me. This team's most impressive wins this year have been George Mason and Clemson. Two teams that could possibly miss the NCAAT.

Amazing we could possibly go the whole season and not beat a single NCAAT team. Yeah both will probably make it, but neither will be much more than an #8 seed. We are a terrible team that has some talented players. We went the entire season without anything to even be proud of. Atleast last year we beat Duke.
