you can see the iss pretty well for the next couple of days (and a few days ago). nasa via fb said you can actually make out the shape of it w/ regular binoculars.

A little upset I live in the city and can't see anything in the sky. I might head over to the planetarium to check it out.

i drove to the beach saturday night and saw the ISS... i knew what it was without even having to look it up. Then the next night i saw it again. it was very impressive... looked brighter than venus does sometimes.

^^No... it is supposed to convey the awesome size and visibility of the most expensive structure ever built. I don't understand why you are always bitchy towards me on here.

i wasn't being bitchy, that's why i said "maybe i'm misreading..." if i was being bitchy, i would have said "what makes you so damn special?" or something like that.

yeah, pretty much. i hate people. but also it is specifically toward him. and you.

Yeah, these things don't tend to be "estimated" considering how precise the orbit is. But then again the locations may be a bit general in your reference. I am surprised that you saw it through the clouds.

i really really hope that atlantis will come around in the evening instead of wee hours of the morning. i suppose i'll get up early at least 1 day since it'd be the last time ever...but i'd rather not have to.

i'm no fan of obama, but bush decided to retire the shuttles back in 2004ish.

yeah that was a bush-era thing.

they needed to be retired, though. maybe could have gotten a couple more years out of them. i think 2014 was the ultimate drop dead date.

The shuttles originally were designed to only have 20 years of service. Retiring them now in 2011 was already pushing it, so Bush was really just doing what had to be done.

agreed, but it would have been nice to have had a legitimate replacement by the time they were retired.

Well Bush put Constellation into place but didn't really give the proper funding and reasonable time constraints. Obama wasn't pleased with what we had done and in general doesn't support manned spaceflight and decided against it. So I guess they tag teamed us. It's cool that both liberals and conservatives in the executive branch are against NASA . At least they can agree on something.

real time location of ISS:

http://www.n2yo.com/?s=25544

I'm going to try and talk to them (on 2 meter ham) when I have the chance. the link above also has location and visibility prediction 5 days out for the ISS and many many other satellites

also, this is an awesome pic... view image for the full size (2549x1696px):

The US may have "retired" manned spaceflight but if we needed to put Bruce Willis on an asteroid next week you better believe we have something ready to do it.

He'd have to go up on a Russian Soyuz.

Also, this was taken from the ISS during Atlantis' reentry:
